I noticed Valdez wears Tito’s #47. With Francona likely retiring at the end of the year, you think they will retire the number at some point now?
Yeah, oddly Valdez was a guy who has intermittently put up great BB numbers in the minors too, but he's been pretty hacky in the big leagues. He does indeed. With Casas, Yoshida and Abreu in the lineup, the Red Sox can take the starter out of the game early.
Does the sixth inning count? That should do it. I doubt any Yankee reaches second base for the rest of the game.
I thought it was pretty obvious that I was not including the sixth inning.Does the sixth inning count?
Edit: does scoring count?
I guess, but our starters need to stop making it so that he has to figure out 4 or 5 bullpen innings every fucking game.Easy to blame Cora here.
Hit a batter, which was not ideal. And then LeMahieu had the biggest at bat of the inning. Pivetta pitched him pretty well, but LeMaiheu was a little better, and then the wheels kind of fell off.Clearly the wrong time to take a call.
What the fuck happened? Did Pivetta just lose location or something?
Well, Pivetta hadn't pitched more than 5.0 innings since late July. Maybe that's pumpkin time for him.I guess, but our starters need to stop making it so that he has to figure out 4 or 5 bullpen innings every fucking game.
To his credit he did get a couple of ground balls. They just snuck throughHit a batter, which was not ideal. And then LeMahieu had the biggest at bat of the inning. Pivetta pitched him pretty well, but LeMaiheu was a little better, and then the wheels kind of fell off.
Happy to be wrong.And....this is not going to end well. Mr. Lover Lover is not helping the cause.
Yeah -- was cruising at 70 pitches, I probably would have tried it too. It's just really fucked up. Our starters turn into pumpkins the third time through, and we don't have multiple innings of high leverage bullpen. Sometimes, either choice is wrong.Well, Pivetta hadn't pitched more than 5.0 innings since late July. Maybe that's pumpkin time for him.
I think the third time through effect is real enough, perhaps exacerbated by the pitch clock . .but the job of the pitching staff is to mitigate that, to come up with a different strategy *that works.*Yeah -- was cruising at 70 pitches, I probably would have tried it too. I just wish the players would rise to the occasion once in a while.
Edit -- And Rafi is not without blame either. Chased yet again to end a rally. You really do need to tack on when you have the chance. They are hitting with runners in scoring position and we aren't. What else is new?
And then to not even have that guy warming up until the go ahead run is in scoring position.I think the third time through effect is real enough, perhaps exacerbated by the pitch clock . .but the job of the pitching staff is to mitigate that, to come up with a different strategy *that works.*
And it's not like we don't have good relievers.
What's idiotic is: to know you've got a 5 inning guy. . .and then try to stretch him to 6. . .and then use your worst guys in the bullpen with men on. Use openers, use key bullpen guys if there are men on, etc.
Anyone can win with an overwhelming advantage. The question is: can you chart a narrow path to victory if you don't have an overwhelming advantage? Can you do "the little things?"And then to not even have that guy warming up until the go ahead run is in scoring position.
But, but he's supposed to be tired from the MLB season!!!Yoshida went first to third!
Ha!But, but he's supposed to be tired from the MLB season!!!
