ESPN ranks Matt Chapman at the top of the 2nd tier of ‘24 free agents, followed by Snell and Yamamoto. (Ohtani is in the 1st tier by himself.) He’s not the power RH bat the Red Sox need, but he’d obviously improve the defense, allowing Devers and Casas to DH 1/3-to-1/2 of the time (depending on how much Yoshida DHs.) Doubt the Sox are interested though, being focused on starting pitching.

Won't matter when they trade Devers to the Mets

Then who threw the ball in after Abreu miffed it?
Verdugo backed the play, running over from right. Would've been more impressive if he'd backed it up coming in from the bench.

I feel like the Sox would win more games if they traded for an all-glove defensive lineup.
A team of glove-first players would still likely get more hits with RiSP even if they got RiSP far fewer times per game.

Verdugo, Rafaela ad Duvall in the OF, (with Yoshida primarily DHing,)is a Gold Glove-level outfield. The Sox will never have a GG infield with Devers and Casas at the corners. Wong, IMHO, is a GG contender at catcher.

Yeah, it would be nice for the team to be really good at something.

The other team I watch from time to time is the Diamondbacks. I would say that body of work for the season, the Red Sox are probably “better,” and the Dbacks have the luxury of getting somewhat easier competition. But what they do, with their relatively low payroll, is occasionally do stuff that brings you out of your seat. Whether it is flashing leather or exciting aggressive baserunning, they give you reasons to enjoy the games.

I enjoy Red Sox games no matter what — but they rarely excite even when they grind out wins.

If I’m reading the standings correctly, the Red Sox are second only to Baltimore in wins against teams above 500.
That’s an odd stat for our mediocre team.
We could make a banner to celebrate - if it weren’t for the fact that we’ll likely continue to lose against such teams this week and spoil the honor.

Duvall okay out there? An odd route to that ball
Oddly enough, O'Brien made the same mistake on the at bat to end the 9th; Verdugo pinch hit and he said it was Duvall. I rewound the at bat to make sure because like a lot of us, the current state of affairs doesn't lend itself to my strict attention.
