Game 7, June 15, 2011
Boston 4 VANCOUVER 0
A series where home ice king shifted back to Vancouver for Game 7, the first Stanley Cup Fina Game 7 in Bruin franchise history.
The teams traded chances early but both goalies looked poised to make it a low scoring affair. With 5:31 left in the first coming off the tv timeout Patrice Bergeron won a faceoff at the right dot to Marchand who circled along the half wall. Marchand centered a pass past Mark Rechhi's backhand right to Patrice Bergeron who beat Luongo clean from the middle of 3 Canucks. At 14:37 the Bruins had a 1-0 lead and headed to the locker room with the first lead held by the road team all series.
Midway though the second Chara played the role of Ryder with a save of his own off a deflected turnover to preserve the 1 goal lead. Just 3:24 later Marchand corralled a Seidenberg rebound in the slot, circled behind the net, and beat Luongo to the post on the wraparound to put the Bruins up 2. It was a goal most goalies would have stopped, but with the way Luongo was out of the net it was a hard save for him.
Desperate to get back into the game Vancouver drew an interference penalty on Chara late in the period. The plan backfired, however, as Patrice Bergeron took a clearing pass from Seidenberg, beat 2 Canucks down the ice, and knocked a rebound past Luongo while sliding to the boards after being tripped. The Bruins headed to the 3rd up 3.
The cheap shots from Vancouver continued at 5:33 of the 3rd as Hansen drilled Ference late and high away from the puck and while the Bruins weren't able to score on the power play 2 more valuable minutes ticked off the clock. Tim Thomas took care of things the rest of the way, making 37 saves to complete the shutout. An empty netter from Marchand at 17:16 provided the final margin of 4-0 and it was time to get the duck boats ready - after 39 long years The Cup is back home. The Bruins are 2011 Stanley Cup Champians.
Tim Thomas was named Conn Smythe winner as playoff MVP. Zdeno Chara took the Cup from Bettman, took a victory lap, and
passed it to Mark Recchi who retired after the game after winning his 3rd Cup.
