CF supposed to check. That's how I was taught. Nowhere for LF to go. Maybe I'm wrong.
CF is supposed to take charge.

The bigger question--that we'll never know the answer to--is whether Gonzalez really would have caught it. Springer got up pretty good to snag it, and Gonzalez looked very flat-footed waiting for it.

Springer had to leap at an angle, though, didn’t he? 3-4-5 triangle, where the ground is 3, Marwin 4 and Springer 5. Marwin doesn’t have to jump.

It'll be moot once Houston tacks on 5 more this inning.
Nothing moot until these fuckers are toast, as my friend E5 says.

I think I let McCullers keep pitching. The biggest problem I think these Astros have has been mental. McCullers has thrown to 27 Yankees. He has given up three hits and one run. Lots of that in Yankees Stadium. Yes, the one hit was 500 feet to Judge. But McCullers has not wilted under the bright lights. If they beat him fine, but if you're looking for an Astro that won't beat himself with more intense pressure than this team has faced since 1986, at least you have some evidence he is up for it.

So word was Joe was good as gone had they lost prior to ALCS but would survive because they made it this far. But, then, they go up 3-2 and now they might (see that word, Jinx Gods!) lose 4-3... Does he survive?

That -- the core issue of astro mindset -- has been your point since the end of the alds. I agree with it.

I may look at this game tomorrow, as I just got in and heard an inning or so in the car on the way home. If this score holds, it will be particularly enjoyable to see the Baby Bombers fail to bomb. Or lay a bomb, so to speak. I guess they just haven't "adjusted" to Houston's pitching tonight. The only question I had as I listened was, shouldn't Kahnle have been taken out a runner sooner? (I mean, wasn't it obvious before the outcome?)

Do they have someone waiting in the wings? Watching the Red Sox et al search, don’t seem to be many good candidates.

Rare to see a self-aware jinx post, with bolded text to prove it.

Very tough call. He struck out the batter before Mc Cann.

I think he will definitely get a multi-year deal to stay if he wants, I think there is maybe a 20 percent chance he takes a year or two off to be with his family. He took that media and fan pummeling after game 2 of the ALDS hard.

Yeah, you wonder what McCullers might have done if he stays in after the Judge home run. Maybe he blows the next guy away.
