I have dropped my iPhone 7 probably 50 times since I got it a year and a half ago. I have just a basic case with no screen protector. I dropped it face down this morning on the sidewalk, and smashy smash, screen is busted.
I am going to upgrade, but not sure what to get. I don't want a giant phone, so I am debating between the X, XR, and XS.
XS is 41.66/month
XR is 31.24/month
X is 37.49/month
Looking at the verizon website, it looks to me like the XR is the better phone. Slightly bigger screen, better battery life, and better reviews. I am not too concerned about the monthly price, the 5-6 bucks a month won't kill me. So which is the better option here?
If you are happy with your 7, a $149 screen replacement at the Apple Store is also an option.
But since you are looking to upgrade...also consider the additional costs.
The Apple Store is running a promotion now, if you're going to buy a XR or XS, where they will give you $100 in trade-in value for a 7 with a busted screen, or $250 for a 7 with a good screen.
AppleCare+ is also cheaper for the XR ($149) than the X or XS ($199). Also, screen replacement if you don't have AppleCare is cheaper for the XR ($199) than the XS ($279).
Don't buy an X from Verizon - it has an older processor - you're better off with an XR or an XS.
I personally have the XS, which is an amazing phone - the best that money can buy IMHO (and also almost the same size as the 7), but would be *more* than happy to have an XR. Both phones share the same processor and main camera (both are superb). The XR has better battery life than the XS, but the XS battery life is also very good.
Reasons to spend more on the XS - if they don't matter to you, buy the XR:
- the OLED screen is top-notch (pun sorta intended) - color quality, really black blacks, higher resolution, etc.
- Telephoto lens - doesn't exist on the XR
- latest generation of shatter-resistant glass on the front and back (the XR has older glass on the back)
