I've always thought that a goalie getting selected for an all star game is a double-edged sword. OTOH--they've been going for 6 years in this format without a goalie injury. I suspect the goalies are aware of the stakes and are proceeding accordingly. OTTH-- I think DePietro's injury cascade started at an all-star game under the old format. It’s completely different. You don’t have 2 players undefended basically standing above each post ping ponging the puck back and forth. The awkward lateral movement I saw goalies have to make due to players trying to score highlight doorstep goals is nothing like they experience normally, and that’s how injuries happen
Regardless, I'd prefer the games were 4-4 instead of 3-3. Might give it a slightly larger resemblance to real hockey (and allow defensive players to exhibit some skills), but still keep the excitement.
