Android wifi options

Here is my issue.  A lot of places I go (hotels, Whole Foods, Home depot) offer free WiFi.  But they force you to log in to get access.  What this means is that my phone will automatically switch but then stop getting any data until I sign in.  It's not a super huge deal I suppose but it's pretty annoying with maps or spotify or whatever to be walking along and then having to go in and switch off wifi because you aren't getting data and don't feel like logging in for the 3 minutes you'll be in range.

Obviously I could just leave WiFi off but then I chew up data when I forget to turn it back on when I'm at home, etc.

Is there anything that does a better job of managing WiFi than the onboard software?  Is there anything to help with this?  I swear my Galaxy S3 had an option where I would get notified before it switched, but that doesn't seem to be on the LG G3 that I have now.

Does enabling this help?

Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Advanced -> Avoid poor Internet connection

I use Tasker.  I have it programmed to turn on wifi based on proximity to certain cell towers. It's on when I'm near my house or office, off otherwise.

Tasker review.
Tasker is great for this. I use it for screen lock and Bluetooth as well. Automatically toggles them on/off based on where I am.

I'll probably have to do the Tasker thing, but even that is imperfect, because there are times, like when I am actually at Home Depot, that I want to use their wireless, not just to save data, but because signal in their stores sucks.  Etc.

All I want is a prompt "in range of known network xyz123 do you want to connect?" and if I ignore the prompt for the phone to take it as a no.

I keep my remembered list pretty short. For ones with sign in that I run into, sometimes I'll one off join if I'll be there a while, then disconnect with a "forget"when I leave. When Starbucks did attwifi they were the worst offender for me.
