The LAK/CBJ deal is Gavrikov and Korpisalo for Quick, 2023 Conditional 1st, 2024 4th

I'm glad it was LAK that paid the price and not the B's. I'm more than a little satisfied with the Orlov/Hathaway deal.Sorry, typo.
That's probably close to what the failed Bruins deal looked like, just swap Korpisalo out for a bottom 6 forward. As for the Quick part, the cap space was never a problem for the Jackets in terms of taking Smith back, but the problem, if that was ultimately what held it up for CBJ, was the actual money. Quick is owed a pro-rated $2.5 million, Smith was pro-rated $4.3 million.
Isn't Korpisalo more than just a bottom 6 forward though? His high danger sv % and scoring chance save % are among the tops in the NHL. LAK just went from the worst starting G in the NHL to at worst a top 10 closer to top 6 with this trade. I realize G values are somewhat suppressed typically but this still seems like more than a Hathaway piece going to LAK esp since he is only 28.Sorry, typo.

I think it's a stretch to talk about Korpisalo as a top 10 goalie. He bounced back a bit this year to respectability but his recent track record is ugly.Yeah seems like there will be even less meat on the bone for trades this year.

No rumors, but they're pretty meaningless with this front office, anyway -- seems like every trade they complete is out of the blue. I had them picking up (or at least trying to pick up) a depth F before the Foligno injury, and I still do.Any word on if the Bruins are still looking to buy? Before the Hall/Foligno injuries I would have expected them to be done, but I'm wondering if Donny doesn't want to try and go out and get another forward in light of the lessened depth up front. Not sure what they can even do given cap space, or if an attractive option is even available, but after the last couple of nights that would definitely be in the back of my mind if I was GM.
I assume thats all they could get after everyone else backed out... IIRC they were shooting for the moon (asking price wise) less than a week ago. So when everyone backed out they either could trade him for that or keep him past the deadline...…that’s it?
Not necessarily talking about retention. I’m thinking more like taking a contract back now to make the money. That was reportedly the stumbling block with Boston and LA.To be fair, that is quite a long time to retain (through 2024-25).
The Flyers have been deathly quiet so far. Anyone think a JvR trade could be useful?
Coyotes are a literal poverty franchiseI'm glad Ottawa got him instead of someone else. Not sure why they make that trade though.
“Escape with no money”Telling Bill Armstrong quote here: "Nowadays with the salary cap, as much as the Coyotes have made out from a flat cap, it also makes it hard to do deals because it's money in, money out with a lot of teams. To escape with no money taken back was huge for us."
The league sending a memo out to warn teams about LTIR shenanigans and them being on the lookout for using LTIR to circumvent the cap a few days after Arizona acquired Shea Weber to circumvent the cap floor was rich. That the GM is public discussing their internal cap proactively is really funny and they should be moved / contracted, but it isn’t terrible given their constraints imo

This is far worse than the LTIR shenanigans.
