This. The Heat, specifically Wright, went unconscious for a couple minutes. Tatum also only 1 for 8 from 3They’re allowed to dick around a bit up 30+. Can’t win every game by 50. End of the day that was a fucking beat down. It ain’t 2023 anymore.
That’s it. Anyone who has played knows that move gets you punched.you also know the game—you cannot undercut a guy at that angle AND there’s no basketball reason to be low at that angle. Can’t do it in pickup, can’t do in the nba. Full stop
Unconscious because they turned the defensive switch off. That’s fixable.This. The Heat, specifically Wright, went unconscious for a couple minutes. Tatum also only 1 for 8 from 3
I personally think he was just looking at the ball and not paying much attention to what was in front off him. You can blame him for that. Pretty dum and dangerous way to play. Again, just my opinion. It looked real bad.He didn’t see him? Is he a horse with blinders on? Reckless play by Martin, he barreled in like Rodney Harrison
You’re right, that was on Jrue.View: https://twitter.com/TheHoopCentral/status/1782127183315796321
Jrue Pushed him, that would be why he screwed up his feet and couldn't jump. So yeah I don't think that was intentional so much as he got screwed up by the contact and lost his footwork.
A lot of that was defense, they also got 3 or 4 uncontested layups in that stretch and had Al screaming at his teammates.This. The Heat, specifically Wright, went unconscious for a couple minutes. Tatum also only 1 for 8 from 3
The real test will be in the coming games. Will they show the killer instinct? They’re allowed to dick around a bit up 30+. Can’t win every game by 50. End of the day that was a fucking beat down. It ain’t 2023 anymore.
Ok so why arent there more punches thrown in the NBA? That kind of collision is fairly common. That’s it. Anyone who has played knows that move gets you punched.
Watching the replay you see Jrue push him and put Martin off balance.. as others have said. It was much worse looking from under the basket.I saw it the way you saw it.
The Bam screen simply isn't a 'hard play' there's a difference between being straight up on a screen and not. If you're set the defender knows where you are to get around you.. and it's a pretty slim amount of space. If the screener shifts there hip and shoulder that space isn't there anymore, it's an illegal screen and you get crushed because the space isn't there. Which is why it's not a legal play.Ok so why arent there more punches thrown in the NBA? That kind of collision is fairly common.
I mean the body control comments are laughable - these are massive human beings playing hard in a confined space. They are going to hit each other and bad stuff can result, even if that isn't the intent.
As I posted upthread, Miami plays over the edge because it helps winning at the margin. But the Bam screen and this are just hard plays. Not teams trying to deliberately injure players imo. I won't convince the people who are calling for a league investigation and you aren't going to convince me. I watch this stuff happening in bum ass games at the end of January. Its going to happen now for sure.
It’s not the minutes or rest, it’s the possibility of injuryThey haven't played in almost two weeks and you have two days off.
Wright also didn't miss.. that's not usual.Unconscious because they turned the defensive switch off. That’s fixable.
He got away with it. The rule only matters if its enforced and if I am coaching a team they are playing to what is enforced. Maybe I am a bad person but I want to win these games - not be on the side of what is right. The Bam screen simply isn't a 'hard play' there's a difference between being straight up on a screen and not. Their 3rd string color guy is 90 years old.I was a few minutes behind live and lucky for you guys because I would have been repeatedly going after Doris. Disturbing that she is the best ESPN can put on the air.
Well then stop saying it's 'just a hard play' or whatever.. we can just agree that it was an illegal screen.. I'll say it's dirty and you won't because he got away with it I guess? He got away with it. The rule only matters if its enforced and if I am coaching a team they are playing to what is enforced. Can’t be worse.Their 3rd string color guy is 90 years old.
I see it as a hard play and I dont think Miami actually did anything way over the line in this game. I want the C's to set the same sort of screens as Bam did - do it until its called.Well then stop saying it's 'just a hard play' or whatever.. we can just agree that it was an illegal screen.. I also want to see the C's win these games, but I'd also like to see the Heat get called on their horseshit. Justifying it as a strategy because it doesn't get called is part of what's wrong with it... it relies on getting away with it and having fans/the league/refs justify it.
edit: I'm also usually in lockstep with you on everything..just not on this.
The injury risk was the refs letting the Heat get back into the game and the Heat took it too far before the officials realized what they did. It’s not the minutes or rest, it’s the possibility of injury
The Heat team is not remotely close to the Magic/Kareem/Worthy Lakers of 1985.CJM should load up the tape player with the 1985 Memorial Day tape when the Celts destroyed Rileys
team in G1 of the 1985 Finals. Then show them the G2 tape.
Ok... an eye for an eye and the whole world is blind. I guess I don't see Boston getting away with this kind of thing... Horford gets called on moving screens all the time... Bam seems to be immune. I just want the C's to get out of this uninjured... and with screens like that it's less likely.I see it as a hard play and I dont think Miami actually did anything way over the line in this game. I want the C's to set the same sort of screens as Bam did - do it until its called.
With special guest Scott Wedman.CJM should load up the tape player with the 1985 Memorial Day tape when the Celts destroyed Rileys

Why on earth would he want to do that?CJM should load up the tape player with the 1985 Memorial Day tape when the Celts destroyed Rileys

Sorry not the point. The Heat team is not remotely close to the Magic/Kareem/Worthy Lakers of 1985.
You can argue that Tatum didn't shoot well from three.. but 23, 10 and 10 is a pretty solid game by anyone's metric. I do think there's room for improvement.. especially JB's d on Jaquez and whoever is going to be guarding Wright. But I don't really think there's too much to be taken away from the fourth.. the game was over..there's a reason you build a 30+ point lead. Probably could've sat a few of the starters and put in two bench players just to change the pace. Or not sit White for as long.20 point wire to wire win, with what felt like half assed defense for several stretches and below average games from their two best players. So good, and also so much room for improvement.
It's pretty obvious that if Bam and Herro are shut down that the Heat aren't going to win. Even if Wright and Jaquez go off it's not going to be enough. I guess we'll see if Caleb Martin shows up. If the C's play their defense right though.. the Heat don't have the scoring. And if the Celts shoot better than they did today..it won't matter. The Heat scored 35 points in the 4th and did not hit 95. Not sure where their points come from in the series.
Reach 105 in each game and move on.
Last season, the Celtics lost G1, albeit not a blowout. Today's result is much better, no matter what your point was.Sorry not the point.
Series are seldom won in G1 blowouts.
I dont care who the fuck you're playing.
I doubt Herro is going to be that unproductive every time out.The Heat scored 35 points in the 4th and did not hit 95. Not sure where their points come from in the series.

Not sure I 100% agree with this. He may play better, but he's going to have a hell of a hard time against the Celts guards.I doubt Herro is going to be that unproductive every time out.
Yeah, he's not going to be able to do much in the half court against Holiday and White. Miami's only prayer is scoring a ton in transition and getting super hot from three. If the Celtics take care of the ball and don't let Miami get out in the fastbreak they're fucked. They have no half court offense with Bam and Herro as the only guys who can somewhat create. Not sure I 100% agree with this. He may play better, but he's going to have a hell of a hard time against the Celts guards.
I think this is right. Miami is great at running actions to get him free shots. And he got a few. But I am confident that his "free shots to actions run for him" ratio was way down. There were a bunch of defensive sequences where he could not get open or not get the ball....sometimes both. Not sure I 100% agree with this. He may play better, but he's going to have a hell of a hard time against the Celts guards.
Because Tatum or Brown don’t want to get suspended and derail a series that the C’s should otherwise win? Like Robinson mixing it up with Jaylen during the regular season, this tactic is the kind of thing a less talented player or team tries to do to shift the dynamic in a game or season.Ok so why arent there more punches thrown in the NBA? That kind of collision is fairly common.

every single basketball game has a “i doubt player x will do y thing again” and we forget that games are aggregations of weird outcomes that in sum tend to point to the average caseI doubt Herro is going to be that unproductive every time out.
