With Huckaby doing the BC games on ACCN, do you go Eisley and bring the gang back together, so to speak? Or do you want someone with more college experience?
Give me someone who can recruit real talent. I'll worry about the coaching later. Christian didn't have any Northeast connections and it hurt him. I don't expect to go back to mid-90s BABC days but we need to retain some of our local talent. With Huckaby doing the BC games on ACCN, do you go Eisley and bring the gang back together, so to speak? If they don’t do any of that, none of this matters. Not holding my breath. They have to get the administration to pump some money into their program and get them better facilities. Upgrade Conte and get the men's and women's teams their own practice facility/better locker rooms, offices, BB only weight room/BB only academic area, etc. like what UConn has.
It's silly to ask them to compete in the ACC with barely adequate facilities, but here we are.If they don’t do any of that, none of this matters. Not holding my breath.
Yup. Skinner was an anomaly. He needed to hit on a ton of lottery tickets/underrecruited types (Bell, Smith, Dudley, Rice, etc.) to make it work but it's not sustainable. BC needs to put up or shut up in this department. It's silly to ask them to compete in the ACC with barely adequate facilities, but here we are.
From my experience, recruits want to see shiny new things like cool uniforms/gear, locker rooms, practice facilities, etc. Baseball and softball is going to greatly benefit from the Frates Center.Yup. Yeah, he was one of the few bright spots this year. Showed some real growth to his game. Heath is probably gone too. Once a coach is canned, the sharks start to circle.Felder apparently joining tomorrow. There’s always a changing of the guard in bball when the coach is fired but Felder is going to be a tough loss. Think he has a really high ceiling under the right coach.
Yes all players this year get an extra year of eligibility if they want it. Of course, that is predicated on programs wanting the player back.Interesting question about Tabbs. He's been at BC three years, one was a medical redshirt. The rules seem to indicate that 2020-21 is a "freebie" and therefore he has three more years of eligibility.
But the transfer rule (i.e., sit out a year) is not at this point permanent. So, does that mean he can't play until 2022-23; and how many years at that point can he play?
Going to be pretty darned old for a college basketball player.
Yeah I think Donahue showed that the transition from "very good Ivy League coach" to "good ACC coach" is a lot harder than one might think. When the firing occurred, Blauds was pumping up Amaker.
Between Eisley, Thompson and Amaker, I'd choose Eisley. Amaker's has a talent edge at Harvard vis-a-vis nearly every league opponent. Wouldn't have that at BC and his coaching isn't that strong.
If they throughly vet John Becker, they may not like what they find. There’s allegations that UVM covered up a rape last year of a female swimmer by a star men’s basketball player. The Bonnies are putting the finishing touches on their 7th straight season with a winning conference record. If you don’t think that’s impressive, you have never been to Olean, NY. I’ll be pleased if Mark Schmidt is the guy. I could support JT3 or Mike Rhoades (VCU) too; they’d be using BC as a steppingstone, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. And I’d love Ed Cooley, but I don’t think there’s anything but wishful thinking behind the idea he’d leave Providence for BC.
The other names I’ve heard don’t excite me. We have decades of evidence that recruiting top talent to play at BC is hard — they haven’t had an excellent class since the Curley/Huckaby crew 30 years ago. So I’d like to see someone with demonstrated ability in this area — we’re obviously not going to get someone with a track record of successful recruiting at the P6 level, but I’d rather hire an established mid-major guy or a retread like JT3 than hand the keys to a first-time head coach or the guy from UVM.
I laughed. I may join the Flynn Fund "if" it becomes reality.Look at the 600-to-1 candidate and see if you don't laugh.

What an absolute stinker of a hire.
