Best way to take the T to Fenway

I know this has been talked about before many times here, but I can’t find what I’m looking for.

I’m coming from eastern NYS on the Mass Pike for the game on Wednesday, what’s the easiest T stop to park at coming to Boston from that way?
Thank you for your help.

Woodland on the D line.

Just not the best in terms of crowds, but as long as you don't time it poorly, it's fine.

Assuming it's not for Yankees/Phillies (tough for oxygen on the train then)

1PM game, what time are you planning on arriving? Not sure if commuters will take spots, you should be ok. If you have trouble, keep going to Newton Highlands or Center and find residential areas without the 1 hr limit. (got at least 1/4 mile from station if NC)

You could park at Forest Hills, take the Orange Line to Mass Ave Station and walk. It's under a mile. About 15 minutes. It avoids the Green Line altogether.

Bud Crew, don't go into Brookline (or JP or Cambridge). Stay in Newton. Or even Wellesley and walk a ton.

Here
Riverside. Just a smidge south of the pike, huge and well lot parking lot, and it's the first stop on the way in so you'll get a seat.

And yes, don't get off until Kenmore.

Yes, this gets my vote also, all good reasons. You skip some of the typical ballpark gridlock here as well.

There's not much parking at Forest Hills; the MBTA lot is tiny and usually fills with commuters and it's resident permit-only all around on-street. Forest Hills also takes a while to get to from the Pike. This is not recommended. Riverside is definitely the easiest.

Nothing beats the D line. Eliot is easily accessible from rte9 and has parking. The closer you are to riverside the more likely you are to get a seat, although if you get on at reservoir you might get a fresh train there. I wouldn’t suggest that though because it’s more driving and parking is more difficult. Your best bets are Riverside, Woodland, and Eliot.

Traffic to Riverside will back up towards 128 prior to game time due to the left turn into the station. Either go early or get off one exit before/after and come at the station from the other direction.

How long is the green line ride in from Riverside though? Every time I'm on the green line I feel like it takes forever.

Commuter rail from Auburndale station. There’s a lot there, it runs on schedule. Is faster and more comfortable than the T, and you can walk from Woodland or Riverside if you miss the train back.

There is nothing like a "what's the best way" question to get a bunch of New Englanders going.

On a Wednesday the lot will be full unless you’re getting there fairly early.

I live in Lower Falls, about a half mile from Riverside. I normally take the D line in and walk from the Fenway stop. But I don't mind being on the green line for 50+ minutes. If a long time on the T is daunting, you could park at Riverside and walk up to the Auburndale commuter station. It’s a fairly straight shot and there is a train at 11:42 that’ll get you to the Yawkee stop (directly across the street from Fenway) at 11:56! 12 minutes vs about 50 sitting on the green line might be worth the half mile or so walk.

If you do pick the Riverside park/Auburndale train option, ignore the directions Google will give you to get to the station. It sends you to the far entrance instead of the closer one. Walking out of Riverside, take a left on Grove St and take Hancock St. When you get to Woodland Road, take a left and go a block until you get to the bridge over the pike. There are stairs down to the platform and you’re there. It’s just over a half a mile.

For landmarks, there’s a place called the Walker Center at Hancock and Grove (big red sign) and there’s a church at the corner of Hancock and Woodland. It’s a bit of an uphill walk until you get about halfway up Hancock from Riverside but even with the walk you’ll be at Fenway faster than the green line.

And on the way back you’ll have options if you miss the return train. Just make sure when you're looking at the outbound schedule that the train actually stops at Auburndale or your return trip might be a wee bit complicated...

There is nothing like a "what's the best way" question to get a bunch of New Englanders going.
Posted after I started my proof of same...

Edit: blarg - I way overstated the travel time via green line. 50 minutes is my door to door, which includes the 1/2 mile walk to Riverside and the walk from the Fenway T stop to Fenway itself.

Thank you for all your help. I’m not going on Wednesday anymore due to some unforeseen circumstances, but I will save all these tips for later on.

I stopped using Riverside because of the slow pace of the attendant taking the money. That was the main reason the traffic backed up to 128. I don't know if they've resolved that BUT...

If you take the Riverside - get off the train at Fenway - not Kenmore - and go back to Fenway to get out (not Kenmore). I mention this because the Green Line splits three ways - and for someone not familiar with the Green Line, often they board the wrong train (Boston College or Cleveland Circle) ... which obviously, do not go to Riverside.

**** I am always amazed - when riding the Green Line from Govt Ctr, etc, to Kenmore - and I see the out of town tourists with their maps --- "How do you get to Fenway Park?" "Get off this car at Kenmore and just follow the crowd to the park."

"Are you sure? I don't want to get lost!"

"When you get up on the street, take a left and follow the crowd...." They still need verification....

Exactly. That's one of the main reasons I favor Woodland over Riverside,

2 reasons why I disagree. On the way to the park it is a shorter and more festive walk from Kenmore to the ballpark. And after the game it's easier to get a seat or to just even get on a D train at Kenmore than it is at Fenway station

OH, I don't disagree with you on that! BUT - quite often out-of-towners get on the wrong train - and wind up having to go all the way back to Kenmore and try again....

After the game, getting the outbound D at Fenway is a rookie movie. Go to Kenmore.
