As did I. Fall River Dreams which chronicled the Durfee High team that featured Chris Herren, was a great read.

Nice obituary from Mark Patinkin. I grew up reading both of them in the ProJo.

At least I thought I did...Patinkin's article said Bill Reynolds started writing for the Journal in 1981. I left RI for college in 83 and could have sworn I read him all through my childhood well before 1981, but memories are funny that way.

It is because of Bill Reynolds and his on-line work at ProJo.com that I found SoSH. I enjoyed immensely his book on the 1967 Impossible Dreamers "Lost Summer: The '67 Red Sox and the Impossible Dream," less so his book "'78: The Boston Red Sox, A Historic Game, and a Divided City," on the greek tragedy of 1978. With gratitude and a wish for peace to his family, Godspeed Bill Reynolds, may you rest at last.

Bill free-lanced in-depth stories for the Sunday magazine before joining the sports department full-time in 1981. He soon became a columnist. When Pitino took the PC job, Bill went along for the ride to the Final Four in 1987 and never looked back. As Bob Ryan pointed out, Bill had played the game at the college level, very rare for a scribe. He could write lyrically on almost any topic.
