to be honest you the phrase'"winningest coach in seattle history" isnt really that high of a bar
Chuck Knox and Mike Holmgren aren't bad.

What's more interesting to me is that by winning percentage, Carroll is #2 in New England.

FWIW, Brian Baldinger was a guest on today's Pardon My Take pod and he thinks Harbs is definitely heading to the NFL.
Any reason to think Baldinger has any insight?

(Sincerely asking. I had to ask Google to remind me who he is.)

Well he does a whole film breakdown on NFL.com I don't know that he has any true insight but given his connections to people around the league, I don't think he made the statement lightly. But again, maybe he doesn't know anything.

around the way
Waldron had a interesting path

How does one go from position coach in NFL (Pats) to position coach for Hartford Colonials to OC of BB&N?
That’s a steep decline

Although the Pats could use some offensive quality control right now
BB&N has a football team? An American rules football team? Fucking love that.

Interesting. Thanks.

If Jim Harbaugh wants to coach in the NFL again, this would seem to be an optimal time to make the move. He’d be going out on top at Michigan. His departure would give the school an elegant way to move past the scandals (by blaming him for them). Also, he’s not yet to a point where his age and time away from the professional game will cause teams to have reservations about him, but at age 60 and 9 years removed from his stint with the Niners, he isn’t far off from that.

But I’m not sure anyone knows if returning to the NFL is on Harbaugh’s bucket list.

Top 3 Seattle coaches win totals reg season - Carroll 137, Mike Holmgren 86, Chuck Knox 80 (all had winning records)
Top 3 New England coaches win totals reg season - Belichick 266, Mike Hovolak 52, Raymond Berry 48

I'd say it's a higher bar than New England

Football could use a lot more Pete Carrolls. Terrific guy who projected humility, grace, and compassion. Those are not qualities often associated with the NFL, and yet he managed to succeed at a high level in the league.

It was probably the right time for this move in Seattle, given his age and the availability of some good coaches this off-season to replace him, and I think the Seahawks handled a potentially difficult situation well. Still, I have a soft spot for these Bill Lee/Bill Walton/Pete Carroll oddballs and I suspect it’ll be a long time before we see the likes of Pete in the game again.

He was affable and did not take himself too seriously, which are rare qualities in a football coach. In addition to being nice for fans, I think it really helped his career.

He was also good on racial issues. There’s a book coming out that I was involved in that highlights Pete’s work in that space.
