Blaine Lacher had a formative impact on me despite him only being with the Bruins a while. I remember I had a Bruins bear my Dad had bought me, and I wrote in Blaine Lacher’s name on the back of the Bruins jersey and added his #31. I begged my parents to get me a Lake Superior State had, and became a fan of the Lakers for a brief period of time. That was my favorite hat for like 2-3 years before I accidentally left it in a locker room.

He had a big impact on my desire to be a goalie. I can still remember his big swooping glove saves, and the belief he was going to lead the Bruins back to the promised land. He flamed out his second season, but man was that rookie season fun. I still hold on to his rookie card in my sports card collection, and I miss that damn bear.

Life can be too short sometimes.

RIP Blaine.

I can still hear Fred Cusick’s call, “shot, SAVE, Lacher!”

Had a hell of a year with the Bruins, RIP.
