He recently started skating again.Essentailly a Lucic replacement. $800,000 cap hit. Currently on IR, not sure what his status is towards returning.
Probably a wedgie too for good measure.Jack Edwards has a swirly in his future
My entire friend group text had the same reaction.lol I’m lying in bed and let out a very loud “NOOOO” in I can’t believe it that is hilarious. Jack’s brain might explode now too
I mean the team has almost zero ability to improve in a substantial way, this kind of move is their only option. It’s either small moves or no movesI just don't know what this adds for the Bruins besides bottom 6 grit. Which, I get, they got shoved around by Florida last year, but still. Seems like a very small move to make. Did they miss having an old slow guy like Lucic that much?
He's hurt so nobody's spot for now but when he's ready probably Brazeau and Lauko. The guy wins cups somehow, so that’s nice, but I’m struggling with the old trope “you can’t stand him until he’s on your team”. I’ll work to change my initial reaction I guess
Not sure whose spot he takes?
Would hate to see him take Lauko’s speed out of the 4th line. I could see him take Brazaeu’s spotHe's hurt so nobody's spot for now but when he's ready probably Brazeau and Lauko.
The only North End franchise this trade actually benefits is Pizzeria Regina.I just don't know what this adds for the Bruins besides bottom 6 grit. They do have a pretty young/inexperienced team when it comes to playoff runs, so he actually could provide a minor help off the ice as well. He’ll be situational or not used at all. Total flier for next to nothing.
That's where I'm at. There's no real downside. Either he sucks and doesn't play or helps out in a couple games. Sounds like a great locker room guy too. They do have a pretty young/inexperienced team when it comes to playoff runs, so he actually could provide a minor help off the ice as well.

They gave up nothing (conditional 2026 6th) and he's veteran. The 4th line is pretty green in terms of playoff experience (Lauko, Boqvist and Brazeau). Maroon has obviously been through it.I don’t grasp this at all. Last year they acquired Hathaway & barely played him in the playoffs. You don’t need this type of guy. Ryan Reaves didn’t get much time with if I recall correctly with his team last year. Needing these players for the playoffs isn’t a real thing anymore. It’s a myth.
What you do need is some forwards who can generate points *and* are just plain mean. It’s why I’ve loved watching Frederic develop & want to see what he can do with more minutes & a bigger role on the top six.
It’s why we kick the tail of the Leafs in. They’re very talented, but they’re too nice up front. Gotta have some just meanness up front.
We don't have the assets or cap space for the player you want. We haven't since the start of the season. I'll say it again, it's small moves or no moves this yearI don’t grasp this at all. No one directly but it takes a roster spot away post-trade deadline when they can call up more people if they have the $ to do so and not risk losing them to waivers. For the 4th line I’d rather see Beecher back up for sure. Wouldn’t mind Richard, or giving Lysell or Merkulov another look (but only if they got chances on top 6 or 3rd line), or a cup of coffee for Farinacci.Which youth is he blocking?
Roster limits are gone, they can carry as many players as they want provided the cap space. Maroon makes $25,000 more than league minimum so it isn't breaking the bank. They also are limited in calling players up from the AHL, they are only allowed 4 regular recalls from the AHL from now until the end of the season so they can't just shuttle in the kids.No one directly but it takes a roster spot away post-trade deadline when they can call up more people if they have the $ to do so and not risk losing them to waivers. Being so tight up against the cap I’d rather see what they’ve got in Regula than add Maroon to the F core. But whatever, he’s here now and I hope he does well.
Agreed. But the 17 games before the playoffs could be (given that they’re not in a dog fight to make the playoffs) and that knowledge might be more valuable than what Maroon delivers. Maybe, maybe not.Yeah - the playoffs aren't time for guys to get experience and "see what you have".
Honestly, in the grand scheme of things, it is probably a good hockey move.I hate this.
At least it's not Corey Perry, though, I guess.
Yeah, the time to give the kids rope was 2 months ago, and I'm pissed Monty did the opposite by burying them on the bench to try and win a game or two in January instead of looking to the future. First 2/3s or so of the season I want to see if the kids can maybe up their level and displace lower level vets. Now the team is at the point it needs to start building it's playoff roster/identity with more consistencyRoster limits are gone, they can carry as many players as they want provided the cap space. The kids are nice but going into the playoffs with a kid only 4th line is probably a bad idea. And everyone whines that the Bruins get shoved around come playoff time and they added a guy who will push back (or push first) so someone like Frederic doesn't have to.
Also, Maroon is like 2-3 weeks away from being able to play so the kids are staying for now.
I agree. Playing a bunch of kids that aren't ready never ends well. The NHL is not a development league.
This will definitely be a "root for laundry" moment for me. I've never liked him.Honestly, in the grand scheme of things, it is probably a good hockey move.
But I hate Pat Maroon.
