Not sure how up to date his info is but I’m seeing 6’5” 245. He took hits from big, strong, fast NFL guys and came out ahead frequently. 3:1 doesn’t seem like good enough odds for random dudes and that picture of a supposed combatant confirms it. A poster child for fuck around, find out.

Just so no one else has to google it:
TSP is TopShelf Performance and they had a team competing in the same 7-on-7 tournament.

Cam's team won, and he literally congratulated them on InstaGram AFTER this fight.

This is a two-for.
1. Professional athletes are way bigger and stronger than you think.
2. There is a reason professional fights have weight classes.

Edit- okay funniest part of these is the guy who tries to tackle him..... my man, did you not own a TV from 2010-2020? People much larger than you who got paid tens of millions of dollars for their skill at tackling people could not tackle this man 1v1... you think you're taking him down in your slides?

I saw this thread title and thought it was going to be some meta analysis of Cam Newton’s tenure as a Patriot vs that of Mac, Zappe, and Hoyer and why the Pats should have kept Newton.

Average-sized, non-combat sport champion/Navy SEAL people running up on Newton and trying to fight him is the LAST thing I expected. That seems like a stupid idea if I ever heard one.

Never mind this “pro athlete stuff”. That’s Cam Newton. That’s not just a pro athlete, that’s a pro athlete that has some of the freakiest attributes humanity has witnessed on a large scale. There are a lot of freaks in the NFL and NBA but the only guy that is clearly over Cam is Lebron.

But the bragging rights if you succeed!!!

If he squares up on you just get wide open in the flat. He can’t hit you there.

When I see things like this, I think back on how some military advisor to action movies once explained that all those scenes where someone defeats 2+ people in a fight or shootout are completely unrealistic because numbers usually provide an insurmountable advantage.

I guess that only counts if you aren’t enormous and the guys coming at you are competent.

usually there are also force multipliers like guns/swords/knives in those scenes. Size/weight/Strength matter a lot in a fight, Cam gets hit in this one pretty clean at least once, he just shrugs it off. That's an edged weapon or even a bat he's probably in trouble.

I'm just trying to get inside the mind of someone even remotely familiar with Cam Newton's body of work (basically the thread title) and understand how they would think going at him was a good idea.

They are now part of Cam's career highlight reel.

Newton
Cam with some thoughtful comments:

“I’m disappointed in myself for letting it escalate to what it did and that’s what I’m apologetic to,” Newton said Friday on his 4th and 1 podcast. “The truth of the matter is this: Me, being in my position, I should’ve never put myself in that position. That’s just the truth. That could’ve got ugly, for real.”

The 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player and longtime Panthers signal-caller also apologized to the kids who look up to him.

“I feel like I let them down,” said Newton, who spent the 2020 season with the Patriots. “Because I can’t sit up here and say, ‘Hey bro, you have to be bigger than that,’ and then all of a sudden I do that. That just shows that you have to always stay in control of your emotions.”

The Auburn product said over the weekend trash talk during a game between him and former members of his C1N organization carried over off the football field leading to the altercation.

“There was a lot of talking on both sides — on all sides, let’s just put it like that,” Newton said. “I don’t want to point the finger and say this person said that or that person said that. Am I saying this is the first time it happened or the last time it happened? It’s something that starts with words and should’ve ended with words.”

Newton said he’s glad the incident didn’t take a turn for the worse.

“There’s no excuse, really,” Newton said. “It could have been a melee. More violence could have stemmed from that. It’s just not called for.”

Newton said he also regrets the incident because be believes it perpetuates a stereotype that he doesn’t like.

“It’s echoing something that has been permeating for years — Black people,” Newton said. “Why do I got to be at a Black event, you know what I’m saying? And I could easily play the victim, and I’m not going to do that. I’m going to hold myself to that same standard.”

Newton, who hasn’t played in the NFL since 2021, said on the podcast that he’s used to handling criticism.

He said sometimes that comes in the form of his failure to jump on a loose ball in the Panthers’ Super Bowl 50 loss to the Broncos in 2016, losing his job to Mac Jones in New England, or because of his perceived negative comments about 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

Newton said he hopes the incident serves as a teaching moment for young athletes and those who look up to him.

“This is what I really want the narrative to be,” Newton said. “To every high school player, to every single person I’ve influenced and to every single athlete, use my situation as a way to understand that in one moment and one decision, your life can change just like that. I let my emotions get the best of me.”
