Free agent center Aron Baynes has agreed to a two-year, $11M deal to return to the Boston Celtics, league sources tell Yahoo.
Oh. Still happy.Well the 2nd year is a player option per Shams.
It may be the omelette talking, but I'm in agreement.I love it
Nope. We’re done after we land KawhiNow, Smart... and we are done. Vive la Celtics.
Unless someone is willing to take Yabusele, he probably sticks on the bottom of the roster. Celtics are going to be bumping up close to the tax, paying Yabusele to not be here for a different 14th man probably doesn't make financial sense for them.Baynes/Theis/Williams/Horford
Summer League is going to be important for Yabusele. Its a coin toss he is on opening day roster

If Baynes is going to start (certainly a reasonable possibility, and a defensible one) that means one of Tatum, Brown, or Hayward will not start.an absolute no-brainer
and he will start
Haha that's awesome.

Source close to the Baynes negotiations: "To call it a negotiation is way overstating it. Conversation was:
Boston: You wanna be here right?
Baynes: Yup.
Boston: Can you do a little less to give us some more flexibility?
Baynes: Sure. Whatever works.
Easiest deal ever done"
That's the key. I dont expect him to shoot 3s with the success he did in the playoffs, but if he can throw up 1 or 2 of those a game at a reasonable clip, this deal becomes fantastic.Getting a bona fide starting 5 for somewhere around 5-7% of the cap is reason to celebrate. Keep working on those corner and top of the key 3's, Aaron!
Brad will go situational with starting line up. But Baynes will get the majority of the starts. Yes, one of Brown, Tatum, Hayward will not start but they will play major minutes (more than Baynes). If Baynes is going to start (certainly a reasonable possibility, and a defensible one) that means one of Tatum, Brown, or Hayward will not start.
Love was the opposing big in that opening night line-up. Crowder, James, Love, Wade, Rose was Cleveland's starting unit. Hence matching Horford up made the most sense.Worth noting that the starting lineup on opening night, with I believe only Morris out, was Kyrie/Brown/Hayward/Tatum/Horford.
This is a lineup that will blow most opponents out of the water and I think it’s what should and will start again.
This part is huge. Rare to find someone who hasn't made a ton of money leave some on the table to be where he wants.
l. Boston is re-signing Baynes using his Non-Bird rights, so as to keep the entirely of their Non-Taxpayer MLE whole.
Great signing for the Cs at that rate. It also preserves the opportunity for him to shoot the moon in a year, so he's not totally hamstringing himself. Seems like a nice win win. This part is huge. Rare to find someone who hasn't made a ton of money leave some on the table to be where he wants.
Obviously, you like this move. This part is huge. Rare to find someone who hasn't made a ton of money leave some on the table to be where he wants.
Couldn’t have a better group of bigs to take a guy like Williams under their wings.
So, how much more happy could we be about a signing of this level? Like, not a star or anything, but just, like...This part is huge. Rare to find someone who hasn't made a ton of money leave some on the table to be where he wants.
Seems like it’s earmarked for a Smart replacement if he leaves. Will be fascinating to see what if anything they do with the MLE now that they don’t need to use it for Baynes or his replacement.
Yes. If Smart looks like he'll opt for the QO, the MLE is also usable if there is someone out their they like more than Morris or would prefer to lock in long term (assuming Morris could be dealt to the Bulls who badly need wings). I suppose Ainge would also potentially blow through the tax this year if he thought it was worth it and ownership was on board. There will probably be more talent at the MLE this year than the next 2 as the cap crunch will ease substantially in a year.Seems like it’s earmarked for a Smart replacement if he leaves.
If LeBron goes west our need for Morris might be slightly less and we could opt for 2nd unit offense with Tyreke.Yes. Morris brings more to the court than covering Lebron IMO. And in addition to his on court contributions, he provides flexibility in trade now and in season. He's a value player at that salary. If LeBron goes west our need for Morris might be slightly less and we could opt for 2nd unit offense with Tyreke.
We always think this about our young guys at the end of the roster. Someone will claim Demetrius Jackson on waivers. Someone will take RJ Hunter for free.Brad will go situational with starting line up. But Baynes will get the majority of the starts. Yes, one of Brown, Tatum, Hayward will not start but they will play major minutes (more than Baynes).
When we play Phil/Det/Ind/Tor/etc, Baynes will start. He'll primarily beat on the other teams #5 defensively. Hopefully, he's working on the 3 this summer and he'll help spread the offense.
We're not paying Yabusele to be on another roster. But if he is a bit thinner in Summer League, I could see Danny trading him to unload salary. A rebuilder may take a flier on Yabu to be a late-blooming big that can shoot. Yabu also has a team option next season and the year after, so a rebuilder may also find that attractive. He'll need minutes to develop and the Celtics won't have them for him. Williams is a much more intriguing Big, that will get those development minutes at the NBA level
