Last one I believe was Bob Davie which didn’t work out great.Big departure for ND, hiring a head coach from within
Freeman has 10 years of experience as a position coach and coordinator.I’m guessing ND likes Freeman enough and wouldn’t spend money on a current head coach (or facilities, part of why Kelly left). Grad assistant to ND head coach in a year is a wild ride.
Oops I meant G5 coordinator to ND head coach. That’s a huge jump in a year to a Blue bloodFreeman has 10 years of experience as a position coach and coordinator.
Ah. I don’t disagree. I like the hire, but they’re definitely taking a bit of a risk from an experience standpoint.Oops I meant G5 coordinator to ND head coach. That’s a huge jump in a year to a Blue blood
Yes, the early signing period is a huge driver of all these coaching moves now. If Cincinnati advances to the national title game, he wouldn’t be available until Jan. 11. I’m guessing ND, combined with being genuinely bullish on Freeman, didn’t want to risk losing that month. And also, to Fickell’s credit if this is the case, he’s not taking any offers until he knows their playoff fate.Feels to me like Notre Dame is more worried about losing a month of recruiting time and certainty that necessarily hiring the best coach. I mean, Freeman might blow us all away, but isn't Fickell a much better (and safer) candidate on paper?

(Edit - "than", not "that")
He was the wrong guy and they should have never hired him. Let's hope CSU won't be looking for Urban Myer's consulting recommendation for their next hire.Kinda rough getting fired after basically one season (CSU only played 4 games during the covid year).
Is now the answer to a trivia question, along with Woody Hayes: Name the two head coaches who got ejected in their final game.Kinda rough getting fired after basically one season (CSU only played 4 games during the covid year).

Just came across the video and was going to post it here. I've never cared for ND, but I will be rooting for them and Freeman to succeed and show up KellyThere couldn't be a more opposite reaction to a head coach than who replaced Kelly.

Really great scene, and really impressed that ND went this way rather fuck around with a multi-week hunt for someone with no knowledge of the program. There couldn't be a more opposite reaction to a head coach than who replaced Kelly.

In the abstract? Sure. But this isn't a pro sport in which players sign contracts that limit their movement. This is a team in which half of the existing players could enter the transfer portal and half of the committed recruits could bolt if they don't like the hire.I may be speaking from jaded experience of BC and Frank Spaziani but I don’t want the players picking the coach.
That’s amazing. He must have left some serious money on the table.247 reporting Mario Cristobal is leaving Oregon for Miami.

I hate to see him leave Clemson, but he has more than earned a HC job at a big program.
It probably is when you're an alum and from the city of Miami. I'm sure he'll be getting a nice pay increase as well.Is Miami really a better job than Oregon?
Not for most people. This seems to be a very specific fit.Is Miami really a better job than Oregon?
An alum worth $20 billion who is related to Mario Cristobal through marriage is looking at building a 50,000 seat stadium about 2 miles from campus.Miami better be investing heavily in facilities like their own stadium or I would never have made this move. The Hurricanes are irrelevant without their own stadium.
If that happens I think Miami could return to elite status. An alum worth $20 billion who is related to Mario Cristobal through marriage is looking at building a 50,000 seat stadium about 2 miles from campus.
