I'd totally watch this.

Former big-league pitcher Roger Clemens is still going to give this whole “playing baseball” thing a go at the age of 53. And he’s going to be joined by the most random assortment of former MLB players that we could ever think of.

It was announced Sunday that an “MLB Star” team of sorts will compete in the summer’s National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan.

The NBC World Series is typically a tournament for college baseball summer teams, but this year, a team of old dudes will play against younger college kids.
Roster:
Roger Clemens, pitcher
Tim Hudson, pitcher
J.D. Drew, outfielder
Dan Uggla, infielder
Roy Oswalt, pitcher
Adam LaRoche, infielder
Rick Ankiel, outfielder
Brad Penny, pitcher
Ben Sheets, pitcher
Josh Beckett, pitcher
Brandon Inge, infielder
Jack Wilson, infielder
Nate Robertson, pitcher
Brett Tomko, pitcher
Jayson Nix, infielder
Laynce Nix, outfielder
Jason Isringhausen, pitcher
Carl Everett, outfielder
Ryan Langerhans, outfielder
Pete Orr, infielder
Koby Clemens, infielder-outfielder
Justin Germano, pitcher
Koyie Hill, catcher
Barry Wesson, outfielder
Ryan Kohlmeier, pitcher

Is there any doubt that Clemens is doing this just for the opportunity to play alongside his son in real games? I think that's the coolest part of the story.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
"the most random assortment of former MLB players that we could ever think of."

Any opportunity to package Craig and Castillo and trade for something?

It seems like that pitching staff is at high risk for multiple DL stints.
That was my thought. Man I don't want to be the one to insure this, but on the other hand you'd love to be the one who handles the medical treatments

That would have been a badass roster in 2004. At least they're having Ankiel be in the OF rather than pitch.

This is basically like a real-life version of the ghosts from Field of Dreams coming back to play, except this time they let the insufferable old bastard take the mound.

I've played in tournaments like these where adult amateur teams will have one or two former MLB players, usually pitchers, on them. They blow it by the typical better than average amateur players. I can almost guarantee this team will crush everyone else in the competition unless a team with a similar roster makeup enters. If the games have a 10 run mercy rule it will be invoked in nearly every game they play. Had I been planning to take an otherwise competitive adult amateur team to the event, I might cancel given the overwhelming advantage Clemens' team will have. I am surprised they would want to bother entering or NBC would even allow it. They are unlikely to face any meaningful competition. They might be better off trying form a tournament of only ex-MLB players willing to participate, have a draft and play each other. At least it would be competitive.

I would love to go and play against that team if I was a member of some other squad.

I was wrong and I am surprised.
Are you surprised they lost, or are you surprised you didn't know much about the tournament? This is not a tournament of "better than average amateur players." It's a tournament of mostly college players, many of whom are legitimate MLB prospects, whose graduates include Clemens, Bonds, and Pujols. It's more like the Cape Cod league than the tournaments of adult amateur players you've played in.

I did not know the general makeup of the teams. I made assumptions about the tournament participants. I did not research the rosters. My bad.
