Especially since there won't be one for the Bruins now (sorry if too soon) and I'm sure the route was already planned. Have Ortiz in the parade too, but in one of those bulletproof chambers the Pope travels in.The man who drove Ortiz to the hospital so quickly deserves a parade in Boston.
This kind of raises one question that's been bugging me. The shooter seems to have had only a couple seconds to pick out his target. How did he know who he was aiming at?The shooter admits to shooting Ortiz as part of an $8,000 dollar hit, but claims Ortiz wasn't his target. "I got confused", he claims.
Google says 6'3" and 230 lbs. Maybe with the entourage and his size, it was obvious? This kind of raises one question that's been bugging me. The shooter seems to have had only a couple seconds to pick out his target. How did he know who he was aiming at?
Think of any famous athlete you want. How many of them would you recognize, out of uniform / out of context, if you only saw him from his back? For me the answer would be close to zero -- not sure about anybody else..
Possibly one of the others involved used as a spotter? Info fed to the shooter? He's here, this is where he's sitting. This is what he's wearing, this is who he's with. Also, your question doesn't suppose that you are looking for a specific athlete whom you are expecting to be in a certain place at a certain time? This kind of raises one question that's been bugging me. Having seen Davida few times, he is more than 230Google says 6'3" and 230 lbs. Maybe with the entourage and his size, it was obvious?
Thanks for this perspective.Delete if off topic, but this thread makes me think of two thongs I spoke to family friend (a marine special ops Guy sadly killed in Iraq) about.
1. A huge part of his training was doing relatively simple tasks, loading his weapon, aiming, etc while placed under stressful situations, even things where deception, medication, was used to raise their adrenaline level, then hit a target, etc since it is really hard to do.
2. How cheap life becomes when people are desperate. One of the most effective things the US did in Iraq was pay people to switch sides.
Having seen Davida few times, he is more than 230
I'm sure this is exactly what happened. There was mention in another article about how the bikers had met up with folks from at least one car as they planned the attack. Presumably at least one of those persons scouted out the situation.Possibly one of the others involved used as a spotter? Info fed to the shooter? He's here, this is where he's sitting. I wouldn't be so quick to accept the shooter's words as true. This kind of raises one question that's been bugging me. The shooter seems to have had only a couple seconds to pick out his target. How did he know who he was aiming at?

Honestly I wouldn't be too sure of anything, but it certainly seems plausible that that the shooter would have some sort of positive ID on his target.I'm sure this is exactly what happened. Here is an unedited / slightly higher res version of that video. Not entirely on topic, but saw this tweet and it is awesome
Not sure why it’s not embedding. But AROD and Griffey did a promo HR derby with the Mariners single A affiliate. They both lost to David Ortiz.

Even further off topic, but amazing how a nice story is soured by a regional reporter piling on to a national agenda that seems less relevant with the passage of time. Here is an unedited / slightly higher res version of that video.
I have not seen the latter video, but that would seem to be relevant. The NYDN is a tabloid with a penchant for playing up salacious details and maybe ignoring relevant context (and I think that may prove a fair description of the "Ortiz associate who bet on baseball" story they jam into their narrative)... but they do not have the reputation of making things up out of whole cloth.Six days after Ortiz was shot, he remains in a Boston hospital, while Dominican authorities have implicated no fewer than 12 people in connection with the attack, including the alleged gunman, 25-year-old Rolfi Ferreira-Cruz, and two jailed suspects who are accused of somehow masterminding the hit from the prison cells where they are currently serving time. A Dominican source was incredulous that such a sophisticated operation could be orchestrated from prison, in a country where the poverty level is crippling.
“They coordinated this from jail?” says the Dominican source, who has knowledge of the Ortiz case. The source asked not to be identified for fear of reprisal against himself or others. “These guys haven’t seen $5,000 in their lives. There might be three levels of what’s going on here: No.1, funding and planning; No. 2, execution (of the plan); and No. 3, guys being blamed. They probably have one cell phone between them. One is 24 years old. He’s been in prison for five years.”
The Dominican source also is one of three people who described an alleged incident involving Ortiz in the D.R. that took place months before the shooting. The sources claim Ortiz’s white Lexus was chased and cut off by a black Mercedes SUV before crashing in front of a firehouse. Firefighters came to his assistance, according to the sources, but an official report is not believed to have been made. The incident did not appear in the media.
(...)
Videos taken moments after the shooting show clubgoers violently attacking Eddy Feliz Garcia, the driver of the scooter. Another video, taken at Dr. Abel Gonzalez Medical Center, the Dominican hospital where Ortiz was taken for surgery, shows a brawl involving a woman, not his wife, who was purportedly involved with Ortiz.
Before you try and transfer anything into your PayPal account, that looks like a bank check, not Ortiz’s checking account.A little googling shows the DailyMail article mentioned earlier, but also some new, better-supported pieces to the story. Twitter has images of checks from Ortiz to pay for the Lexus (including his full bank account number - c'mon people, get some sense).
Stealing from David Ortiz has to be a one way ticket to Hell, if you believe in that sort of thing. Before you try and transfer anything into your PayPal account, that looks like a bank check, not Ortiz’s checking account.
So I wouldn't yet say "this checks out", but it does look like "there's at least some fire to this smoke".
You have to love the question mark at the end of a supposed statement by a source. There's way too much fog on any of these stories so far.“They coordinated this from jail?” says the Dominican source
I have seen the video. It's been out there since the morning after he was shot. The girl in the video definitely looks like the alleged mistress in question.comments in the WaPo article mention "He had just bought a Lexus for a young woman, not a relative. She showed up in the waiting room at the hospital and a brawl with Ortiz's family ensued."

Twitter has images of checks from Ortiz to pay for the Lexus (including his full bank account number - c'mon people, get some sense). And now, we get a full NY Daily News article with quoted-but-anonymous Dominican sources, that adds some more detail...

Yes, this video was on Twitter almost immediately after the news broke. The video and the Lexus payment are enough to move this past unsubstantiated rumors at this point.I have seen the video. not sure what you are looking at but the routing number on the check is BoA . . . .Before you try and transfer anything into your PayPal account, that looks like a bank check, not Ortiz’s checking account.
I really don't care at all if the rumors that he had a mistress turn out to be true. He is the GOAT DH and although I live in California, my understanding is that he has had a very positive effect on the city of Boston and not being a great husband doesn't change any of that. JFK and MLK Jr were adulterers , but I still have very high opinions of both of them.Yes, this video was on Twitter almost immediately after the news broke. I don't know about the bad guy axing the GF instead of Ortiz. There is a very violent scene in the Valachi Papers, which is based on a true story, where the boss seemed to hold a grudge against the guy involved with his girlfriend. The comments from some folks on that Twitter post make me wish Thanos was real and had succeeded permanently.
And I love that the assumption is that, automatically, she's his mistress, that there's no other possible explanation that he was nailing this girl on the side. How often does he go to the DR? He's in the states pretty much all of baseball season for MLB Network and various other things, so does he fly home to get some and then fly home? And Tiffany is just blissfully unaware? Isn't it possible that there is another connection to this woman? I know it's automatic to assume the worst of a rich and successful man when it comes to another woman but maybe people should let the explanation play out before assuming that he's double dipping just because he bought someone a car?
Saw something else that this might not be the first time an organized attempt on his life has been made or at least planned. IF that is his mistress and IF she is the girlfriend of a known drug lord, why isn't SHE the one getting axed instead of Ortiz? Something about this whole thing just does not add up.
But it is in his name. It’s a bank check, not from his checking account.
I mean, I'm not saying she should be killed but if the guy knows that she's not going to stay loyal, why go after the symptom instead of the cause?I don't know about the bad guy axing the GF instead of Ortiz. Truth is, nobody knows why Marcellus threw Tony out of that four story window except Marcellus and Tony.Hey, Tony Rocky Horror got thrown out a 4-story window for being suspected of touching Mia Wallace's feet.
I read that as Mike Wallace. I knew he was a tough interviewer.Hey, Tony Rocky Horror got thrown out a 4-story window for being suspected of touching Mia Wallace's feet.

If I go to the counter at the bank and tell them I need a cashier's check, they cut one. But they put my name on it as well as the payee - the routing number is Bank of America, but it's not my account number. It is a one-off check without an account number that can be hacked. He is at no risk of identity theft. At least not from this
This may shock you but not everyone responds rationally when their significant other is cheating on them.I mean, I'm not saying she should be killed but if the guy knows that she's not going to stay loyal, why go after the symptom instead of the cause?
I think the guy was supposed to be watching the wife to make sure nothing was happening.I don't know about the bad guy axing the GF instead of Ortiz. When the little scamps get together, they're worse than a sewing circle.Truth is, nobody knows why Marcellus threw Tony out of that four story window except Marcellus and Tony.
My comment wasn't so much about the identity fraud possibility as it was confirmation that he did pay for the car via a bank check. If I go to the counter at the bank and tell them I need a cashier's check, they cut one. True enough, especially psychotic drug pushers with god complexes. This may shock you but not everyone responds rationally when their significant other is cheating on them.
Because he's a drug dealer and most likely looks at her like a possession rather than a human being capable of exerting free will. You wouldn't shoot your toaster if somebody stole it, would you?But it is in his name.

No, but I might get a new one since it's easier and would likely would have a longer lifespan and more bells and whistles, like a bagel setting.Because he's a drug dealer and most likely looks at her like a possession rather than a human being capable of exerting free will. It's not an assumption by people on the Internet.. It's the story that's been told from the very beginning, presumably by people closer to the situation than we are. Maybe his wife was okay with it or was just willfully ignorant. Who knows. And I love that the assumption is that, automatically, she's his mistress, that there's no other possible explanation that he was nailing this girl on the side. How often does he go to the DR? He's in the states pretty much all of baseball season for MLB Network and various other things, so does he fly home to get some and then fly home? The images of the Lexus receipt and check have also been out there for quite a while and are only recently showing up in English speaking news reports. Sure, someone could have faked it being from Ortiz, I suppose. My comment wasn't so much about the identity fraud possibility as it was confirmation that he did pay for the car via a bank check.
Perhaps he prefers that the "cause" live a life feeling she was responsible for Ortiz being killed. And there is nothing saying he would remain cozy with her. Make her life a living Hell. But it is in his name.
I mean, I'm not saying she should be killed but if the guy knows that she's not going to stay loyal, why go after the symptom instead of the cause?
There was a friend of mine in college that claimed he would beat the guy to a pulp if he caught his girlfriend with someone. That it was his girlfriend, and not the guy, dating him, was not a consideration for hisThis may shock you but not everyone responds rationally when their significant other is cheating on them.
We don’t have to rationalize this. It happens all the time and seems to be human nature. Significant other gets caught cheating - person seeks revenge against 3rd party.Perhaps he prefers that the "cause" live a life feeling she was responsible for Ortiz being killed. And there is nothing saying he would remain cozy with her. Make her life a living Hell.
