I have been manually dowloading updates since the incident of the bad updates some months ago. As a general rule, I download the important and skip the optional. But what am I to make of "Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 for Windows 7 x64-based Systems (KB2901983)" I have tried to read the supplementary material but can't see why I need this. Is everyone getting it? Is it necessary for ordinary users who don't need languages other than English? TIA.

For our clients we go through a three step process for all but the uber critical.

1. We subscribe to a service that scrubs the updates / tests them / etc

2. We then deploy to internal users two days later.

3. We release them to clients over the weekend.

We only deploy critical and important ones regularly. We'll wait for slow periods at each client to deploy everything.

It's a lot of work but my point is that updates fucking suck. It's not just MS, but vendors these days seem so anxious to push shit out.

The .NET framework is required for many applications to function. You already have it, but an older version (probably 4.5.1). You don't really need the update, but it probably won't affect anything much one way or the other.

It's not related to all the language stuff that always shows up under optional updates.

I downloaded this update and haven't really noticed any impact from it.
