Did my phone get hacked?

So I left in a hurry this morning, was running late for a tee time and I forgot my phone. Getting back, I ran through my new messages to find this text message

Big Daddy is me.

So my phone sent itself two text messages while I was asleep at 4:15 this morning. I've never had this happen before and have no idea what the hell is going on.

Should I be concerned? I feel like I should be. While I await help from someone here, I'm going to do some banking and maybe click out some dick pics.

Maybe your iCloud account got hacked? Do you have any emails about new devices being activated for iMessage on your account?

Big Daddy? Seriously?

No emails about accounts. I downloaded Lookout and it says my phone is clear of malware. Yes big daddy. Seriously. It's funny. Tell Siri to call you something dumb and its funny to hear her say it. Ask her what zero divided by zero is.

My son changed my name on my IPhone to "Tits McGee" one night, and then something happened (like a dog walking by the house) and his 14-year old brain moved on to the next thing and he forgot to change it back. Three internal work emails went out the next morning before one of my partners called me to ask me why I changed my name.

Been having a stressful few days...this made me laugh.  Thank you for sharing and thank your son!

I've had it be big daddy, art vandelay, the dude, hootie mcboobitty and about a dozen or two others over the years. I have to make a lot of small talk with strangers at work and it's usually a funny sidebar with someone sitting at my bar when it's slow or a joke with friends or my girlfriend. "Hey, ask my phone what my name is..." "Your name is Justin but since we are close I get to call you 'sugar tits'". Then we ask it stupid questions like 0/0, if I can borrow money or when the world will end. It's quite literally the only time I ever use Siri. It's a friggin joke. You guys must be fun to hang out with.

Anyway is my identity stolen or what, can someone shine some light on this for me or should I just go to att tomorrow?

This is the first thing to check. Purchases in iTunes or through your Apple account?

Can't say I blame you.

Last week while I was in a restaurant, I got a call from an unknown number. I sent the autoresponse text, "Sorry, I can't talk right now."

A text comes back from that number: "Ok who is this?  Please leave a message"

I reply: "That was an auto reply to a call based on caller id. If you didn't call me, sorry for the text."

He/she replies: "Who are you and why are you calling me?" (As if my phone had called him at the same time his called me.) Caller ID can be spoofed, and I have gotten some unsolicited commercial calls on my iPhone. I wonder if the spammers are getting slick enough to make calls in pairs like this.

At this point, I figure nothing good will come from this exchange and reply: "Obviously a mistake. Sorry again".

Reply: "Ok"

Next time, I will just let it go to voicemail if the caller ID is not in my Contacts.

Why would your contact entry be listed as Big Daddy? That's separate from the Siri entry. I have a custom name in Siri, but if I message myself it comes up with my iMessage email address (and if you don't have it linked to an email address, your phone number would show up). You'd have to add yourself to your phone contacts as Big Daddy for your iMessages to come through as that, as far as I know.

I just said "Siri, change my nickname to david ortiz."

Same text I posted above. I didn't manually do anything, other speak to Siri.

Over the last few months I've gotten calls from my own cell phone number. I've never answered them and they've never left a message, but I assume they're just telemarketer scammers who can mess with their caller ID. This might be the same thing.

Alright, that is weird. It may have not done that to me as I had myself as a contact in my phone before Siri was even a thing.

Though can you be sure if it wasn't actually David Ortiz?

That doesn't explain why there's a return text. Whoever did it would have to spoof iMessage, which I would hope is more secure than that.

Well, that expands your potential issue. You can use iMessage from any of those devices and have it show up on all your other devices as well. I frequently "text" from my Mac.

The return message always comes when you message yourself.

I do as well. Anyone have a rec for security software for a MacBook Pro?

Yes, because he's Big Papi.
