Agreed 100%This was the best day of NFL playoff games (non-Pats division) in I don't know how long.
The other one was a regular season game in a year they won the Super Bowl. Both weren’t tragic. That's not the game he's referencing
Even if you hit him OOB the FG would not have been a gimmie. Diggs caught it at the 32.43 tried to keep him in bounds by going low and undercutting him, which is understandable, but he whiffed.
No he was listing people who made mental/physical mistakes at the worst possible timeThe other one was a regular season game in a year they won the Super Bowl. Both weren’t tragic.
Yeah. I watched this game, rooting like mad for New Orleans, and the shock and disappointment have yielded to amazement. Sports, indeed!SPORTS!!!!!
The celebration is one thing, but I'm surprised they didn't flag Diggs for taking off his helmet and throwing it across the field before everyone got to the end zone for the pile-on.I’d like to think even Steratore isn’t that big a dick. If ever a play deserved a massive celebration, that was it.
My bad I thought it was a list of historic playoff goats. No he was listing people who made mental/physical mistakes at the worst possible time
If that's what he was going for, then I apologize and he's a ninkumpoopMy bad I thought it was a list of historic playoff goats.
Actually Oregon and wine. (We'll take our 'celebrities' where we can)Washington and wine but I like it.
They were.Must admit these games were pretty entertaining today.
Yep - in other news, I should probably stop calling games in the first quarter.I do believe people said this or similar about all 4 games this weekend (including when the Falcons were up 10-6), and only in the Patriots' case were they right.
That's what I rooting for, but never thought it was possible! Yesterday the whole universe thought it would be Brees, Ryan, Roethlisberger, and Brady. Unreal.So....Case Keenum, Nick Foles, Blake Bortles and Tom Brady.... hmmm
I mean, the Saints were in the locker room. Calling a penalty there would be flat out wrong.I’d like to think even Steratore isn’t that big a dick. If ever a play deserved a massive celebration, that was it.
I was thinking this as well. A Gost-like kick to inside the 5 could have used up 6-8 seconds easyEven New Orleans' kick-off to Minnesota (prior to the Vikings' final drive).....why not kick it short and make them use 5-to-7 seconds on a return? Why kick it into the end zone allowing the Vikings' to preserve those precious seconds?.
Of course, you're confidently wrong.No. It was 3 or 3.5.
Woof. Color guy stepped all over the call. Zolak-esque.Minnesota radio call: http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=22100627
Yeah, no ... I doubt the whole universe thought the Saints were going to go into Minny against that Minny defense and winThat's what I rooting for, but never thought it was possible! Yesterday the whole universe thought it would be Brees, Ryan, Roethlisberger, and Brady. Unreal.
I think the FOX analyst was right - #43 was afraid of interfering, slowed up when he was too early, couldn't stop momentum, and ended up also taking out the only other guy.
But a DPI in that situation is not bad at all - it's still a 57 yarder.
Hope he's not this generation's Donnie Moore.Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to introduce Saints rookie, Safety and future bar trivia answer, #43,
Marcus Williams.
CorrectNo he was listing people who made mental/physical mistakes at the worst possible time
Yeah, maybe I'm crazy, but I don't get how there wasn't more coverage help deep - an in-bound completion is basically the end of the game, literally the only thing you can't let happen is someone behind the defense for a TD, why isn't there an extra deep safety?
Looking at the replay it's hard to tell, but he does seem to be early and would have thrown off his timing. A little hindsight makes him look a lot better, and the rest of the team worse - wtf were they??? The CB he takes out, #20, pulls up jogging while the ball is still in the air
Even if thats what happened, it's dreadful. He had the play in front of him. All he has to do is stop, let Diggs catch it, and then wrap him up and not let him get to the sidelines. We saw more unconscionable touchdowns given up by defenses (hello Jags on two fourth down plays giving up long td passes) today than I can ever remember.I think the FOX analyst was right - #43 was afraid of interfering, slowed up when he was too early, couldn't stop momentum, and ended up also taking out the only other guy.

Yeah that makes sense. But the video still looks like a hilarious Madden '18 glitch.I think the FOX analyst was right - #43 was afraid of interfering, slowed up when he was too early, couldn't stop momentum, and ended up also taking out the only other guy.
But a DPI in that situation is not bad at all - it's still a 57 yarder.
I think the bigger issue is that he was out of control closing on the play, and that’s why he was there early and had to adjust. Obviously he should have slowed up and worried less about the catch and it appeared a big hit.Even if thats what happened, it's dreadful. He had the play in front of him. And why the hell are the Saints even letting a ball get completed that close to the sidelines. If he catches that and gets out of bounds, there's like 4 seconds left, and the Saints have a pretty damn good chance of making a kick that was shorter than the one Forbath made a minute and a half earlier. It's just awful, awful situational defense all the way around.
God, I'm so happy I'm a Pats fan.
Think of it like the end of the LOST finale, and the tape runs out just as they all enter that buildingI DVRed the last 5 min of the game so I could put my daughter to bed. Tape ended with the Saints about to attempt the game winning FG.
What did I miss?
Rosebud turns out to be a sledI DVRed the last 5 min of the game so I could put my daughter to bed. Tape ended with the Saints about to attempt the game winning FG.

I don't even care about drafting the Chad Jacksons and Tavon Wilsons of the world in the second anymore after todayThey were.
But I hafta' say - the more I watch the Pats and compare to the other coaches (and coaching decisions), I realize that New England is playing chess while other in-game approaches are being played on a checker board.
I can't believe the clock-mismanagement and the ill-advised challenges.......just mind-blowing.
Even New Orleans' kick-off to Minnesota (prior to the Vikings' final drive).....why not kick it short and make them use 5-to-7 seconds on a return? Why kick it into the end zone allowing the Vikings' to preserve those precious seconds?
My inner fanboy says thank God we have Belichick.
That's the thing though. Watch the replay. He's not even close to out of control. He basically jogs up to where Diggs is, comes almost to a complete stop, and then launches himself two feet to the left of Diggs. I can't even wrap my head around it.I think the bigger issue is that he was out of control closing on the play, and that’s why he was there early and had to adjust. Situational football...there’s the Pats, and then there’s the other 31 teams
Meanwhile, the Jaguars are fired up
"Coach [Doug Marrone] told us about that this morning," defensive tackle Malik Jackson said. "It's disrespectful. It's stupid as f---, to be honest with you. You don't give a team that came in here and smacked you in the mouth ammo to come out here and just be on you all day. We're bullies. We don't need to say we're bullies. We don't need to talk like we're bullies. We're not going to tell you what we're going to do. We're just going to smack you in the mouth, just like we did today.
"They talked. They said they were going to do this. They didn't do anything. They're waiting for the teacher to come break everything up. We stood there, and we smacked them in the mouth. We gave them what they wanted. They wanted us. We gave them what they wanted. Now look at them. They're pissed that they called us out."
Jackson was just getting warmed up, too. He wasn't happy with Steelers safety Mike Mitchell's talking several weeks ago about beating the Patriots. Or head coach Mike Tomlin's comment in December that the Steelers' Dec. 17 game against the Patriots would determine where the next meeting would be played.
"It's not [Steelers-Patriots in the AFC title game], but can you please ask them to give us the game tape they were watching to prepare for them so that we can use it and get better?" Jackson said. "Just give us their notes. We can really use them.
"For us, it wasn't about getting into talking matches, trying to fight them, trying to do anything. We're just trying to let the clock run out and go home while they go home and prepare for New England that they'll get to play next week in imaginary land."

That’s it, he was racing in for a kill shot, got there too soon, panicked, slowed down and went low to avoid the DPI. It was a horrific series of decisions.I think the bigger issue is that he was out of control closing on the play, and that’s why he was there early and had to adjust. Obviously he should have slowed up and worried less about the catch and it appeared a big hit.

I'm just going to assume Jimmie Johnson was right and that he was going too fast to avoid contact any other way and that he was avoiding a PI into a game winning field goal but yeah that's just...ugh.
That is just brutal.
From this slow motion video, it actually looks like he tries to avoid Diggs altogether. He was there at the precise moment the ball was. It's unconscionable.
That is just brutal.
Well he got there early, so I guess he was trying to avoid interference. That was a good shot of it.From this slow motion video, it actually looks like he tries to avoid Diggs altogether. He was there at the precise moment the ball was. It's unconscionable.
It is really neat. That feeling of your team winning a Super Bowl for the first time is special and two of these franchises are tortured cities and the third is freaking Jacksonville. This season is awesome because either the Pats are going to win another Super Bowl or some city is going to enjoy winning a Super Bowl for the first time.
I'm not sure about that---I think in the full video (not just the shorter clip right before the whiff) you see him coming up and he has momentum...that's why he lands a few yards back, it's not a standing jump he was moving. That's the thing though. Watch the replay. He's not even close to out of control. He basically jogs up to where Diggs is, comes almost to a complete stop, and then launches himself two feet to the left of Diggs. I can't even wrap my head around it.
