I was going to attempt to make the McQuaid deal defendable until I realized it was not 4 years for $2.75m TOTAL!RIFan said:Lucic trade: Defendable

This isn't a case of a player being undervalued because they're not into statistics. Everyone has known Dougie Hamilton is an excellent hockey player since he was 14 years old. The Bruins FO are just morons.Toe Nash said:And you guys told me that they cared about analytics because they had a guy with a director of analytics title.
If they were blowing it up and starting over then fine, I can understand that (even if I disagree with it).twibnotes said:At this point, what is the point of paying for productive players like Rask? Just blow it up and start over.
I'm baffled.
Then he sits out a year? I mean, they held all the cards. And why didn't he want to be here in the first place? That says more to me about this front office than anything. The Four Peters said:I'm guessing the long and the short of it is that Dougie clearly indicated he wasn't signing here long term and Sweeney wanted picks in this year's draft and not next year's.
Say they offer his 7/45, he turns it down and says "I'm not signing here", what else can you do?
This would make sense but doesn't it seem similar to the reports about Kessel? Isn't it equally likely that neither were gritty enough for them. With the McQuaid signing that's what I'm worried about. The Four Peters said:I'm guessing the long and the short of it is that Dougie clearly indicated he wasn't signing here long term and Sweeney wanted picks in this year's draft and not next year's.

It was very strange. Sweeney kept implying that Dougie didn't want to be here and that he wouldn't be comfortable and that he wanted out but when a reporter asked "so he wanted out?"The Four Peters said:I'm guessing the long and the short of it is that Dougie clearly indicated he wasn't signing here long term and Sweeney wanted picks in this year's draft and not next year's.

Didn't mind the Thornton trade all that much -- never thought he was half as good as he should have been. It's more that the succession of crap moves has been eating away at my interest. Frankly, I wasn't all that invested in the team this past season. Too much mediocrity.RIFan said:How did you survive the Jumbo trade? That was worse than this.
Well, good news for you. Wanting picks in this year's draft seems to be about the desperation play for Hanafin. The Four Peters said:I'm guessing the long and the short of it is that Dougie clearly indicated he wasn't signing here long term and Sweeney wanted picks in this year's draft and not next year's.

This is wrong. Chiarelli deserves a lot of the blame for what just happened. His decision to spend money without regard for the salary cap is a big part of what put them in this mess to begin with. He had no plan for signing Hamilton - Hamilton was as good as gone before the ink was dry on Krejci's extension last year.SeoulSoxFan said:Jacobs and Kasper killed me as a die hard Bruins fan in the 90's.

I would rather have seen a complete blowup of the team, with dumping of salaries to afford Hamilton. And Claude's comment about 3-year player contracts makes
Me very nervous about the future here.
But this is in part Sweeney playing the shitty hand he was dealt.

They could have found the cap space for him. Chia made mistakes but they were almost free of most of them besides Seidenberg. There are multiple guys with just one year left that someone would take.Eddie Jurak said:This is wrong. Chiarelli deserves a lot of the blame for what just happened. I wonder what Claude's tune is come December when he is out of a job because the B's top 6 is Chara, Seids, McQuaid, Trotman, Krug and Miller. Four of whom can't get the puck out of their own end but hey they are "tough to play against". TTPA = BROONS hockey

As it was, the Hamilton deal didn’t look good — but may have had a secondary cause.
“It was surprising,” said one NHL assistant GM. “It’s obvious there’s something going on that we don’t know about. From what I’ve heard behind the scenes, his teammates don’t like him. I heard he’s a loner and sort of an uppity kid, and that his teammates don’t like him and it was unanimous.”
