I don't know enough about Ramsay's game, but I'd like to see him think quicker, act faster and be a bit more forward thinking. Other than a couple of instances he's been putting his foot on the ball and more often than not playing the ball backwards and gaining any momentum with his play. I get that he has that Arsenal thing where he can keep the ball, but his play so far has been a bit conservative. I'm sure he has it in him to be more dynamic. But i don't know his game really.
You and every Arsenal fan, fletch. The knock on him in his post-breakout season with Arsenal is that he's not positive enough with the ball. Too much sideways and backwards passing.

I liked that the Welsh fans fuckin booed him on one of those breakouts where he killed the break dead by passing backwards and missing an open teammate making a run, Williams I think.

I used to be super into adding review to football but the implementation in every sport drives me nuts and leads to the review of so many minor decisions that at this point I'm against it.

If you only get one challenge per half, all your gonna lose is two mins per match. But i reckon with players crowding refs during those moments of contention, it would be a wash.

GOOOOL!
Argh..the Welsh defense was just bad on their left side against Robert Mak. Duda scores with his 2nd touch.

Not to go on about the guy but Ramsay was elbow to elbow and shoulder to shoulder with the slovakian number 20 and Ramsay kinda gave up on it, then one pass later and its a goal.

Wales seem to be doing a Scotland, i hope they can keep the heed. They've enough talent to get another goal.

Man, I confused Jon Champion with Martin Tyler. That's... not good.

Slovakia looks a little better in the second half.

Wales looks like the better team. How Skrtel did not get sent off is beyond me. The ref on the line should have called it right away. He is lucky not to be sent off.

Fletch - Ramsey has not built off of that great season where everything he touched seemed to turn to gold. That true Midas of a season. It is maddening because everything he did that season or the things that made him successful that season all had to do with being direct. He has very little creation, direction, or impetus in his game anymore. Get the ball, pass it back. Get it at the edge of the box, instead of looking for a killer pass or a shot, pass it out wide for a cross. It's been hard not to completely sour on him as a player.

Here
Russia-England on a Saturday night is one of the more worrisome matchups from a CT perspective.

Yeah, he seems to be over thinking everything, as opposed to just acting on instinct, which you have to do from time to time. I dunno what the explanation is, he clearly has talent and ability. Wales need him to be at or close to his best.

It's ridiculous and it has to change. There has to be some kind of challenge system or penalty flag llike in US Pro Football, in the event of officials missing key moments. It cheapens the sport IMO, when shit like this happens. How many sports have an in game review system? Cricket, Rugby, Tennis, Pro Football, Baseball...
Basketball does as well. But do any of these sports allow fouls to be reviewed? Football doesn't. Basketball only to determine the degree of foul. Not sure about rugby.

How much better would the UK be if they just played as a country? Bale for sure would start. How else might the roster shake out?

This England side is fun to watch. They have lots of quality going forward and are playing an extremely attacking lineup -- Rooney as a mid, advanced fullbacks -- but they are shaky defensively. I see some 3-2 games in their future.

Also, why is Harry Kane taking corners? Shouldn't you want your center forward in the penalty box?

Dele Alli (my crush) has been instrumental! Fun, attacking football from England.
Worrisome in central defense though.

Kane taking the corners is truly bizarre

Also Russia looks terrible, just completely botched a chance at a 4 on 3 break.

Russia also looks incredibly slow.

This Russian team is really poor. Big, slow, unskilled.
I don't know if they're really that bad. England is playing a super-quick, athletic lineup. A front six of Dier, Rooney, Alli, Sterling, Lallana, Kane, plus fast fullbacks, is going to make most teams look slow. They're following the Spurs template, and Spurs ran a lot of teams off the pitch last season. Which makes sense because what could be more England than a catastrophic second-half collapse?

Separately, after having seen that DirecTV commercial about 30 times today I really want to punch Bon Jovi in the face.

Russia's mid-fielders and forwards have been dreadful, can't string together passes, can't carry counter attacks, turning the ball right over to England in their own half. Their backs have been really strong, especially the old tiger Ignashevich.

Except that right back, who has been closing down breakaways as if his family would be shipped to the gulag if England scores. Might easily be 2-0 if not for him.
