i wish these ‘off by a toe’ would go away. That isnt the spirit of the rule.VAR sucks
Totally agree. Kills the game IMOi wish these ‘off by a toe’ would go away. That isnt the spirit of the rule.
Yes it very obviously needs to be more of a daylight standardIf the offside rule looked at whether the player’s entire body was behind the last defender and not his where the foot or pubes are, a la hockey, this would be a hell of a lot more interesting
I believe the rule is the defensive player has to make an affirmative play on the ball to remove offside... not just a deflection. How is it offside when it was off of the Italian defender?
Totally agree. Kills the game IMO
Exactly. If the guy is entirely behind the defender call it. If he breaks 1/8 of a second early that isnt an advantage. If the offside rule looked at whether the player’s entire body was behind the last defender and not where his the foot or pubes are, a la hockey, this would be a hell of a lot more interesting
Ya the gamesmanship goes both ways.Striker goes down with the turnover late in the game? Call me cynical but that seems designed to slow the counter. The whole thing with a player going down injured and the team asking the opposition to knock it out is annoying . Countless times you will have a team that has a player down continue to play on if they have an attacking advantage . As soon as they lose that advantage suddenly they want the ball out .
I just got in from two rounds of golf. Missed the first game and only caught last 15 mins of this one. No idea how both teams played, was 0:0 a fair reflection on 90 mins etc.Austria should have won this game, but here we are.
as offsides VAR is called, it was correct.Austria should have won this game, but here we are.
Wales, Scotland, and NI should merge so they don't embarrass the soccer homeland any more.
I didn’t say it was a bad call.as offsides VAR is called, it was correct.
I think we all agree it is a bad rule but the call wasnt egregious as the rule stands
I figured. Just expanding on the details of var being too picky.I didn’t say it was a bad call.
Italy had the better of the game for much of it, but then in the second half Austria started dominating, really. Had a goal disallowed by *thismuch* on a super close (but correct) offsides call. In extra time, Italy scored twice brilliantly, and it seemed over, but then Austria did well to keep the pressure on and get a goal.Throw me a bone here .. has Italy played poorly or has Austria played far better than anticipated?
