Thankfully, you are not one of those many individuals dripping with arrogant superiority WRT the other conferences. I don't know how you miss, though, the media choir that reinforces this. That's what has people upset and in terrible revenge mode. When the preening stops, someone will post a picture of a dead horse, everyone will be square, and the celebration of the last few days will cease.Kliq said:Just bouncing around social media and seeing a ton of hate for the SEC from fans who are excited that their teams did so poorly. Conference pride/hate is weird to me, I guess if a team from your team's conference does well, it validates your own teams value a little bit, but realistically, who cares? I'm an LSU fan, but I don't care that an SEC team lost (I'm upset that a douche like Meyer won sure, but not because Bama lost). I don't know, but it does seem like every college football fanbase is terrible.

College football is different. You're a fan of your team first and your conference second. The success of your team is directly correlated to the success of your conference, which is not the case in any other sport. The entire college football season is intra-conference games. As we saw with the Big Ten this year, if your conference is perceived to be weak, then no matter how much you win you won't move up the rankings. We're seeing that the Big Ten is a lot stronger than people gave them credit for, but that perception is tough to overcome. Rooting for OSU, even if you're a Michigan fan, helps eliminate that perception and will help Michigan in the long run.MentalDisabldLst said:
No you're not. One of those can be true, but not both. Did you root for the Yankees in 2009, too?
No. Oregon uses a 3 semester schedule. They're back in 3 daysBigSoxFan said:For one, the students will still be on break.
Nope. Cam Newton's Auburn v. Oregon game was spread on spread.sachmoney said:This is the first time we've seen a spread versus spread championship game, right?
Don't think it matters that much either, just countering what you said about break.BigSoxFan said:Did not know that about Oregon but I also don't think it matters. Anybody who can be at the game will be and these fan bases are huge and crazy about football. They won't have a problem filling the stands.
Good point, that one escaped me. It's just interesting to me that this hasn't happened more often. Most college teams run some variant of the spread, but the traditional pro-style offense has still, for the most part, dominated.PaulinMyrBch said:Nope. Cam Newton's Auburn v. Of all the myths to crater, my favorite was how nobody can run the ball against an SEC defense. There has been plenty of that the last few days, a trick pulled off by Notre Dame -- ND! -- no less.

I think Oregon looked good as front runners, but were only just OK when the game was close.
Also, it was pretty much a home game for Oregon.
This game will be closer than people think.
