Surprisingly muted response in Canada. Disappointed we didn't get to play for gold. I was at an evaluation camp for kids in grades 5-8 today and it showed me how things have changed. The kids were happy Canada won, but not excited. I guess they have grown up with Canadians in the NBA.
For the third time I will say I think the USA punts the WC to put pressure on the best NBA guys to play.

For some of us we recall when Canada beat the USA (with Sir Charles) in the University Games

Here's the Athletic article:

This is most of the US wish list, outside of a handful of guys (Butler, Kawhi, George, Mitchell). I think if the US just returns 3 of their big minute guys from Tokyo (any 3 of Durant, Tatum, Bam, Booker, Lillard) they'll win without too much effort. If any of the guys Lebron talks to beyond that end up playing, it should be a rout.

LeBron uses the Olympics as a recruiting tactic to get people to play with him, some I'm not surprised he is all in trying to recruit the best players to play for Team USA. Also captaining Team USA at 40 years old and leading them to gold probably appeals to him in terms of his legacy.

yeah Tatum is not high risk here from participation. You make the case better with big men like Porzingis and Anthony Davis, or oft-injured guys like Kemba.

Congratulations to Canada.

Yeah Reggie was right, as he often is.
Lebron going at as redeem team guy was in the script a long time ago. Portis as your backup five, Austin Reeves? This was a tank job.

The funny thing is the word out of our Canadian pro league (CEBL) is that the USA trashing their roster is disrespecting Canadian ball and Murray et al won't stand for that.

I will also repeat my prediction Lebron will haver a documetary crew in tow through his whole Olympic experience. There a decent chance the title will be "Return of the King."

I get why guys would be pissed off about being slighted like that.

Folks lose the right to say that it would have been different if they were there when, in fact, nothing was preventing them from being there.

The nature of FIBA rules 27 year old Marcus Smart would be a great FIBA player. The more physical defence allowed means tough physical on the ball defenders like Dort, Brooks are valuable.
