Raleigh, North Carolina is named after Sir Walter Raleigh, famous for never discovering El Dorado, and also for coordinating the settlement of Roanoke so poorly that everyone either died or moved away. Raleigh, NC was also established 50 miles inland to prevent the capitol of North Carolina from being attacked from the coast.
Today, we honor those traditions by continuing the systematic elimination of the Hurricanes in a manner that would make Sir Walter envious of their lack of success, and we also happily show them that no matter how far inland you run, bears will always find you.
