1) NFL refs are terrible, pretty much always.
2) The Patriots lost because:
a) they're not good
b) Miami IS good (way more talented)
c) you don't win very often when you barely gain 200 yards on offense.

I still don't know the rational for what happened on the ineligible man downfield penalty. He 4-5 yards downfield on the throw.

They marked off the yards for the penalty, the Dolphins were huddling for 3rd and 18, and suddenly it was a first down. What happened there?
I assumed they got word from NY. Haven't seen a good replay but think it was the right call. Similar to the one they called back last week on the Patriots.

I think it was the right call to pick up, the guy was right around the line of scrimmage after the ball left Tua’s hands.

It's really easy to mess up that call on screen plays. The O-line is only supposed to hold their blocks for like 2 seconds, and if one isn't blocking someone, it is easy for them to look like they are 5 yards upfield when they release. The screenshot above shows this really well.

Is the guy right on the 15yard line an OL? It looks like he maybe a TE (based on build). If he’s the TE, there’s an OL missing from this picture.

regardless, very similar to the call that was reversed FOR the Patriots against the Bills, one thing that’s gotta make it hard for officials is how far back the QB is from the LOS when he throws it. Tua is 10 yards behind the line. Visually, it’s simple to see an OL ~15 yards in front of the QB and assume he’s too far downfield.

No, he is an OL, and they absolutely got the call right. I think it was even less close than the Andrews call.

What made this one weird is that they announced the penalty, then walked it back.
