I hate Volin, but he is not alone amongst media members in believing Brady is not being truthful here. Volin, Felger, Mazzarotti, and Bedard have specifically said they think the Giselle/family storyline is bunk vis-a-vis OTAs and just a cover for contract issues. All of them are despicable. Even Curran looked a little sideways at this assertion.Volin is such an asshole:
But Brady never addressed reports that he Patriots and their refusal to give him a long-term contract extension. My belief is it at least contributed to him staying away both springs.
He specifically, and candidly, said it was to save his marriage. Is Volin married? Or is he as shitty at life as is he about his job?
It's grotesque, as the inherent implication being made is that Tom Brady and Giselle Bundchen are both okay with Tom using her as a pawn to further his own contract negotiations. I'm sure that conversation would go well. "Hey Giselle, I'm gonna tell the media: Don't blame me; blame my wife. It's all her fault. You're cool with that, right?"I hate Volin, but he is not alone amongst media members in believing Brady is not being truthful here. So frustrating.
The conversation with my brother was actually more far-ranging than just the Pats: Game 163 in ‘78 or Game 7 in ‘86, Game 4 in ‘87 / Garnett in ‘09 / Perk in ‘10, the B’s in 2019, etc. This is a great topic for another thread: What great Pats victory would you give up in order to gain a victory that you wish they had had? It's not an easy answer, though I really think I would trade the SB win vs. the Eagles (particularly because I'm a big Dononvan McNabb fan, being a Syracuse guy) for SB 42 and an undefeated season. I'd make that trade pretty quickly in fact.
Beyond that. Hey, incredibly successful woman who’s an international role model, you mind if I falsely portray you as a nag who won’t let me play with my friends? It's grotesque, as the inherent implication being made is that Tom Brady and Giselle Bundchen are both okay with Tom using her as a pawn to further his own contract negotiations. I'm sure that conversation would go well. "Hey Giselle, I'm gonna tell the media: Don't blame me; blame my wife. It's all her fault. You're cool with that, right?"
It's an insult to both of them.
Look at the 4 guys you just named. Would you expect anything less?I hate Volin, but he is not alone amongst media members in believing Brady is not being truthful here. And he invented going to marriage counseling, too, just to further the lie.

Why should he?If it was really about saving his marriage/family, why didn’t he just retire?
There is the thing in marriage called compromise. Usually means no one is happy. If it was really about saving his marriage/family, why didn’t he just retire?
I think the OTA's were just one part of his adjustments w/r/t marriage-related stuff.I just find it hard to fathom that the amount of time he'd have to devote to OTA's is so substantial that it would cause that much friction in a their marriage, but to each his own I guess. I get that from August to January Brady would pretty much be 80/20 football / family, but a few weeks in the spring would cause that much of an issue? I could definitely see Brady thinking that putting that out there makes him look like a dutiful husband and father and didn't consider how that makes his wife look. Good thing Giselle isn't married to a mid-level sales manager who finds himself on the road 40 weeks of the year.
The OTAs were part of it but he also mentioned working in his business/brand stuff during the off season. So during training camp and the season it’s football 24/7. And I think Giselle was fine with that. But then the off-season rolls around and he goes full in on his TB12 shit. So there was never any downtime. It got to the point where she wrote him a letter about how she couldn’t take the work/life imbalance.I think the OTA's were just one part of his adjustments w/r/t marriage-related stuff.
I dont know Tom Brady, but it seems really unlikely that he would admit to something as personal as marriage counseling. among other things, just to make him "look like a dutiful husband and father."
As for the last sentence, I think the apt comparison isn't to whether she's married to someone "who finds himself on the road 40 weeks a year," but whether that same husband also wanted to spend additional time going to optional "sales squad team-building exercises" when he's already the company's best salesman and has always attended those exercises in the past.
At least this post is insulting to both sides of the marriage.
Right. I left out some details, but the point remains. I don't think he was making it up to look good. The OTAs were part of it but he also mentioned working in his business/brand stuff during the off season. So during training camp and the season it’s football 24/7. And I think Giselle was fine with that. But then the off-season rolls around and he goes full in on his TB12 shit. Why do you care so much about OTA's? They're glorified walk-throughs. Coaches aren't even allowed at the first session. Even Belichick usually cancels a handful of sessions each season.I just find it hard to fathom that the amount of time he'd have to devote to OTA's is so substantial that it would cause that much friction in a their marriage, but to each his own I guess. I’m not conflicted. This is horrible and lame.View: https://twitter.com/darrenrovell/status/1248615739021340672
As a lover of terrible puns, I'm conflicted.
The Ted 2 cameo is fucking great, are you kidding me??Brady's branding has always been low rent for somebody of his stature. The Entourage/Ted 2 cameos, the Hulu ads, Tompa Bay, etc.
I guess having a former Patriots marketing intern as your manager isn't the best idea.
Ted 2 was epic. Hulu ad was solid. The Ted 2 cameo is fucking great, are you kidding me??
Yeah, Rovell says right in his tweet the Dan Patrick show (???) was selling shirts.Based on Rovell's tweet saying that someone had been selling TOMPA BAY shirts, I'm guessing Brady applied for the mark to stop others from using it.
Never said I care about OTA's, but they are a maximum of 10 days of 4 hour blocks. As I said to each their own, but attending some of the OTA's does!n't seem to me to be a huge time commitment even is Super Bowl years when you have 4 months off. Maybe it was a concession to maintain a healthy marriage, maybe it wasn't but it's not out of line to be slightly skeptical that there wasn't more to it.Why do you care so much about OTA's? They're glorified walk-throughs. Coaches aren't even allowed at the first session. Even Belichick usually cancels a handful of sessions each season.
We know Brady has other obligations in the offseason beyond football. The occasional commercial shoot, charity appearance (remember the brouhaha over Brady doing an appearance for Best Buddies while OTA's were going on?), and TB12 stuff. Giselle has her obligations as well. Put it all together and they decided that one area that could most easily be removed from their schedule was OTA's.
Not every spouse would want to be married to the mid-level sales manager on the road for 40 weeks a year either. So dismissing Giselle's concerns in that manner is borderline offensive.
It really has. Right down to the whole Tom terrific kerfuffle. He's a Bentley. Needs to be presented as such.Brady's branding has always been low rent for somebody of his stature. The Entourage/Ted 2 cameos, the Hulu ads, Tompa Bay, etc.

So Tom knew that BEFORE last season? If the answer is yes, I guess we have to assume that he looked at who they replaced Gronk with and concluded thusly. The problems with the WRs were not as obvious then, unless Tom knew JG would be different than the year before. The defense looked strong. The only obvious difference then was TE.He told Stern he didn't think NE provided him with the opportunity for him to play at the high level he expects for himself. Brady is no fool. He understands the cap, the players around him, and what things look like elsewhere.
Why would you assume that over they wouldn't commit longterm to him financially? So Tom knew that BEFORE last season? I can see him looking at the squad NOW and saying he can't win a title with them. I agree. But he claims to have decided before last season. Does this add up? Maybe.
Hahahahaha. Lame.View: https://twitter.com/darrenrovell/status/1248615739021340672

Ok, this is a more acceptable explanation.Based on Rovell's tweet saying that someone had been selling TOMPA BAY shirts, I'm guessing Brady applied for the mark to stop others from using it.
That’s not how trademark law works in this country.Based on Rovell's tweet saying that someone had been selling TOMPA BAY shirts, I'm guessing Brady applied for the mark to stop others from using it.
This was also the reason given for his kind of shitty scooping up the copyright for "Tom Terrific" -- Tom Seaver's well-established nom-de-guerreBased on Rovell's tweet saying that someone had been selling TOMPA BAY shirts, I'm guessing Brady applied for the mark to stop others from using it.
Peyton didn’t mind. It's grotesque, as the inherent implication being made is that Tom Brady and Giselle Bundchen are both okay with Tom using her as a pawn to further his own contract negotiations. I have no idea whether Brady or the Pats were the driver. But the post I was replying to said:Why would you assume that over they wouldn't commit longterm to him financially?
I was responding to that. IF you assume Brady left because of Brady, then my comment follows. He told Stern he didn't think NE provided him with the opportunity for him to play at the high level he expects for himself. Brady is no fool. He understands the cap, the players around him, and what things look like elsewhere.
This is true.Yeah, Rovell says right in his tweet the Dan Patrick show (???) was selling shirts.
Well, as an IP lawyer, it is how people try to use the trademark registration system in this country. It's a lot easier to shut down infringements if you have a registration and the bar for a bona fide intent to use is prettty low. That’s not how trademark law works in this country.
Not sure passing up is relevant but I think Brady needs to be removed from the discussion because he’s obviously the best pick, value, or however you want to define it.Honestly I would also argue with Brady as the best pick in Patriots history. They passed on him how many times? It was mostly lucky.
I'm not sure who I'd vote for, but maybe someone like Gronk - they traded up to get him, it was a risk, and he turned into a Hall of Famer and just a legend.
Agree with this. There is no way having a 6th round pick turn out to be the best player in the history of the league can be attributed to shrewd/prescient talent evaluation. The credit they do get is for the high level of coaching and development Brady received in his formative years, and for having the cojones to stay with him when the high-dollar, franchise QB was ready to return during the '01 season. Not many coaches would have done that, and BB was not operating from the position of accrued benefit of the doubt /leverage that he has now.Honestly I would also argue with Brady as the best pick in Patriots history. They passed on him how many times? It was mostly lucky.

I think the same argument applies to Edelman. Not sure passing up is relevant but I think Brady needs to be removed from the discussion because he’s obviously the best pick, value, or however you want to define it.
In the non-Brady division, I’m going with Edelman. 7th round pick who was great on ST for years and turned into a top WR for several years and won a SB MVP award.
