If Braun is on the market I hope the Sox are checking in.
Agreed.
It would be an Upton-like situation similar to last year where the Diamondbacks were selling incredibly low on a guy for subjective reasons that I couldn't care less about.
Braun has a career slash line of 312 / 374 / 564 / 938 having played full seasons (113 games in rookie season followed by 151, 158, 157, 150, 154...) his entire career before the abrupt end this season. You can believe those numbers are inflated as a result of the PED use but with OPS's of 1.004, 888, 937, 866, 994, 987, and then 869 this past season in which he knew he was going to be suspended; it's impressive consistency in my opinion.
He would be a good fit in left field at Fenway for $101 million through 2020 w/ a $15 million dollar option or a $4 million dollar buy out in 2021, especially if the Brewers can chip in some money. If he's owed on average a guaranteed $14.42 over the next seven seasons currently (plus the $4 million dollar buy out) and you can get that contract down to $10-$12 million, it's well worth the risk.
