My iPhone 5 battery is basically shot, and it looks like I'll have to take it in to the Apple Store to get it replaced. I was wondering whether instead of paying $79 for the battery replacement, I should just upgrade to an iPhone 6.
The pros and cons of the 6 as a device have been discussed at length in this forum, and I'm sold on the idea that at some point I'll upgrade, mostly to get 128GB of space (I currently have a 64GB phone and space management is a constant concern). My main concern is that I presume there might be a 6s coming out September, following Apple's traditional cycle. Since we're already midway through the iPhone 6 cycle, does it make sense to just wait? How accurate historically has Macrumors.com been in terms of predicting release dates and release features?
If the details help, I'm not locked into a contract anymore, but since I'm on AT&T I'd have to buy the phone using one of the AT&T Next plans, so in effect I'd be paying the full $849 price, with an implied trade-in value at the end of the Next period. (Re-upping a 2-year contract to get the phone at $399 causes me to lose the $25/month discount that I currently enjoy, so the economics don't make sense.)
