That was answered last night. Someone posted the tweet in the gamethread.Quick, someone ask him again about the timing of the Young PH last night!

But but but it was indefensible! After the game, a 4-3 loss that ended the Red Sox's season with a three-game whimper, Farrell explained why he made the move.
"The number of pitches [Miller] has thrown, if we wait to get to Jackie in that inning, we may never get there," Farrell said, noting that he wanted to make certain lefty-mashing Young had a chance to face Miller. "And then, they are going to go to [right-hander Bryan] Shaw with the right-handers [Dustin Pedroia and Mookie Betts] coming in the next inning. That's the shot we took with [Young].
"Either Benintendi or Jackie is going to get an at-bat if that inning gets extended. But if it's not, we're not going to get left with the pinch-hit starting the next inning, and then they go to Shaw to lead things off."

With two 3B on the payroll for next year, a utility guy who can fill in there, and a phenom prospect capable of playing there not that far away, why in the world does this team need to invest in yet another 3B this winter?"Cornerstones?" Despite the ALDS sweep, the Red Sox were probably the third or fourth best team in baseball. The team has more than cornerstones. It's got a strong foundation, sturdy walls, some brand new doors and windows, but maybe a slightly leaky roof. There are three things this team needs next year: 1) to replace Ortiz's offensive production (Ortiz himself is irreplaceable), 2) starting pitcher depth, not necessarily another "ace," and Justin Turner at 3B.

there wasn't much doubt.Dombrowski just wrecked 85% of SoSH like a boss. AHAHAHAH
He made it sound like Farrell not being the manager in 2017 was a very silly idea.there wasn't much doubt.
I find it interesting that most fans want what's best for the club, short term and long term. But only you seem to be wildly celebrating, despite the fact that we lost the ALDS 3-0 in Ortiz's final year - mostly because JF didn't do anything so obviously bad to mandate being fired. Rock on.Dombrowski just wrecked 85% of SoSH like a boss. AHAHAHAH
Yes and the whole staff is "invited" back.Assume he said Farrell is back?
Fuck off dude. The Sox won the division and they had a GREAT year despite what happened in a crapshoot playoff series.I find it interesting that most fans want what's best for the club, short term and long term. Not doing anything so obviously bad to mandate being fired is a good season for an MLB manager.I find it interesting that most fans want what's best for the club, short term and long term. Ehh, let's not push it. The team had a $200 million payroll and didn't win a single playoff game. They don't sing hosannahs about the 2009 team, they won't about this one either. The could have and should have accomplished more than an ugly sweep out of the postseason in a series where they had a lead for exactly 1 inning.Fuck off dude. I'm DombrowskiHe made it sound like Farrell not being the manager in 2017 was a very silly idea.
Yea speak for yourself. I remember the 2009 team fondly because of their bullpen and I'll remember the 2016 bunch for their offensive prowess and all the young players. I'm not letting 3 pissant games wash out the first 162.Ehh, let's not push it. The team had a $200 million payroll and didn't win a single playoff game. None of this is germane to firing Farrell, which I agree would never happen. But this year wasn't "great" IMO. It was pretty good and ended very badly.
Bully for you. But those 3 pissant games were the most important ones of the year. It would have been nice to actually take a couple of them.Yea speak for yourself. Party planner. The door is open for Papi to return to the organization in any capacity. Duh but nice to hear.
So he announced they are picking up his option then?He made it sound like Farrell not being the manager in 2017 was a very silly idea.
I've said this elsewhere, but I suspect JBJ is the primary trade bait. But this is absolutely on point ... X's hitting woes, in particular, need to be addressedHis key test is going to be what the young players do. If X and JBJ continue their poor-hitting ways that they showed in the 2nd half and the postseason, Farrell's screwed and will be gone, no doubt about it. If Porcello falls back to earth or Price doesn't improve a bit, Farrell's gone. Some of this will be in his control and some of it won't, but no one said life was fair.
Has to meet with the owners to discuss that. I believe we'll know after the World Series. So he announced they are picking up his option then?
Even though DD is a huge JBJ fan? I'd honestly rather trade away Moncada. Jackie is a stud in CF and I don't think Benny has the chops to man that position.I've said this elsewhere, but I suspect JBJ is the primary trade bait. But this is absolutely on point ... Of course, DD is a huge JBJ fan. So am I. But if it improves the team, I'd admire him from afarEven though DD is a huge JBJ fan? I'd honestly rather trade away Moncada. Jackie is a stud in CF and I don't think Benny has the chops to man that position.
I don't think it was indefensible but I think he pinch hit Hill and Young in the wrong order. If you know you are going to pinch hit for AB vs. Miller then you should have pinch hit Young for Holt. You had to have an idea that Miller was going 2 innings and your best chance to score was when Pedey was on first with no outs. That is when Young should have hit. If Miller gets out of the inning quickly you just insert Hill for defense in AB's spot and he would be up the next inning anyway with the only difference being the half inning of defense. I don't think it is a major mistake but I think you want Young in the highest leverage situation. But but but it was indefensible!

There shouldn't have been. He held this team together through ups and downs all season while winning a super competitive AL East. No small sample of 3 games is going to determine his fate unless here were behind the scenes issues. Glad DD put this to rest asap.there wasn't much doubt.
