How come it's OK for Haitians to say "infrastructure," but I can't?

If you only knew the things my grandparents used to say about Haiti's infrastructure.  I'm at least tolerant of it.

Yea, my grand dad used to say things like "That house has a great foundation, for a Haitian school."  It was a different era, but that's no excuse for how hurtful those words are.

I have it on good authority the apartment building Lidle flew into had a Haitian bellboy.

Err, bellman.

Doh!

Not to derail this thrilling conversation -and I'm sure it's been brought up before--but Lidle's plane ran into the apartment of Kathleen Caronna, a New York celebrity who a decade earlier had been almost killed when a Macy's Parade Balloon crashed into a lamppost that landed on her.

I would say that's like getting hit by lightning twice although NYY players die in small plane crashes with surprising frequency.

Given the subject matter, that's more hijacking than derailing.

Yeah, we're getting off track quicker than an Amtrak train.
Does this balance out the national-infrastructurism of the thread or do we need to add some Minnesota bridge collapse references?

I doubt he even has a computer or smart phone. He's really not into digital stuff.

Giants can't quite put their finger on it, but for some reason team reps weren't allowed in to visist JPP yesterday. It's a head-scratcher.

I never like it when these discussions get all meta -- carping about racist overtones and such.

For those of you wondering, yes, it's a conscious decision that this thread has been left open.

It's a terrible, wonderful thread.

Of course, someone will ruin it for the rest of us soon enough.

It's not just this thread.  Our mods have been remarkably hands-off in BBTL.

It's akin to old fashioned blood letting to balance the humors.

Yup. I think we're so happy people are starting to lay off the deflategate shit that letting a few scuffles breaks out feels cathartic.

Will JPP's fingers heal completely? Or does he get to be like one of those dime-store novel villains who burn their fingertips to avoid leaving fingerprints?

I think the problem here is that there were some conclusory assertions of racism but no one actually made a cogent argument to back it up.  If you're going to make a claim of racism you've got to back it up.

To be fair, his first attempt to ruin it was already pretty good. Sheriff Dan to the rescue!

While I find your racist humor unfunny, it should be noted that your racist humor has not been censored or otherwise removed. It is important that the community have discussions of what is and is not appropriate and that requires not just an object to discuss - your racist joke - but also the reactions of the audience to your racial joke. This way, we as a community get to decide standards for how members are expected to comport themselves in the future.

What is not helpful is your cowardly and sniveling response to the criticism of your fellow members. Your attempt to frame those who don't prefer your brand of racist humor as intolerant is disingenuous. If you're gonna make racist Haitian jokes, you should be willing to take criticism for them. If not, you suck, in more ways than just being a guy who tells racist jokes.

No thread is a "designated safe speech" thread but we do have published community standards and nearly 20 years of members deciding what they want in their forums. The people, here, thought your racist joke sucked. For several different reasons. Yet, you choose to reply with the monumentally unfunny "PC police" crap and double down with the notion that you - the racist joke teller - are actually the aggrieved party.

Nope. You don't get to play it this way. You have every right to make your unfunny racist jokes and members have every right to call you a suck poster and/or dumbass in response.

This is not grade school and I don't care if you think the people who think your racist
Jokes wee unfunny are being mean to you. LOL BOO HOO, asshole. Grow the fuck up. If you want to play in the racist jokes end if the pool, toughen up and don't come crying for the protection from the PC police you criticize and invited. You fucking suck.

Where is JPP being treated?  I saw one report as Broward County... but wouldn't it make more sense to be treated in Palm Beach?

Can City of Rosie Palms help us?

I just don't understand the complete disregard for safety using a "somewhat" controlled explosive, built to questionable standards by the lowest paid people often in a foreign country from inconsistent materials as fast as possible with low oversight and expecting something safe for the family to be within 6 feet of while launching FROM YOUR HANDS.  Mix in alcohol and it's absolutely a mad house in Emergency Departments across the country.

This is a shinning example of why we just can't have fun things anymore, these two morons in the NFL who have put fireworks safety once again on the front pages of the national news may just be the tipping point towards outlawing them in more places. Lord knows common sense can't protect even the millionaire athletes so how are we mere citizens supposed to act safely?

Lots of people with pets, kids, or a preference for a quiet neighborhood would welcome a fireworks ban with open arms. Also add fans of the NFC to that list, apparently.
