This is for an 'old-timers game,' right? Right????! Please....
They need cheap forwards. If he signs for the vet minimum, I'm down with it. At minimum, it'd make for fun nostalgia before he retires.

I actually heard this rumor 4-5 days ago. I didn't post it because it was speculative and I didn't know the trustworthiness of the author. I conditionally like it -- good to have him back, and at a reasonable cost, so long as he's on the 4th line.

Between here and everywhere.
I wonder if having him back means something to both Patrice and David?
Do you sign someone like him if they aren’t thinking of coming back?

Have to think this indicates they might be, and the Bruins don’t want to be running them out there with a bunch of kids.

Ok. So now they might as well grab Wheeler if he gets bought out.

I think of the two, Bergeron is far more likely, and really the only one even remotely likely. Bergeron was Bergeron for most of last season. Krejci was himself only in fits and starts; I think he's near the edge and another season goes over the cliff. I dont want to see that.

Arguably, the top three "tough guys" from last year's team might not be around next season. Foligno's gone, and Frederic and Clifton are FAs -- Freddy is an RFA, Clifton is a UFA. They may have signed Lucic just to replace some "toughness", not necessarily to entice Begreron and Krejci to come back.

Krejci also left his family back home and I read (I forget where) that if they hadn't gotten off to such a hot start he's not sure he would have lasted the whole year. I think he's done.

Bergy who knows. He has a 4th child on the way, that alone might be enough for him to want to stay home.

Or to hit the road for extended periods of time several times a year! :)

Or they recognize a leadership void from not having those guys in the locker room and know Lucic can be a helpful bridge back to the Chara and Bergeron locker room culture. I can't draw a conclusion on Bergy and Krejci other way, although I bet this doesn't hurt. I think this comes down to $$$ and their everlasting quest for 'grit'.

I am hopeful he returns - seems such a shame to have such a great year end on such a shit playoff performance by the team and have Bergy go out like that

It could also be that they know they are going to working in a bunch of kids, and wanted some more leadership in the room. He also provides some on ice protection as well.

I saw this thread’s title and didn’t think anyone cared so much about me. But in my case, the nickname alludes to ex-Detroit Lions middle linebacker Mike Lucci, who I imitated when we played Rush and Smuck back in the early 70’s.

I get he’s a fan favorite, but I don’t know that he’s a leader.

His bullshit at the end of the Montreal series and the “I’ll fucking kill you” thing was embarrassing.

Oh I agree with you. I was more speaking to what I think the thought process of Neely & Sweeney is.

Nope. So I think this could help one or both with their decisions to return.

Yeah, this is fine. I'm as down on this team as anyone here but the fact is they need human beings who don't make much right now, and he's that. The fact that he was also once MILAN FUCKING LUCIC is pretty nice.

It felt like the last year or two that Sweeney was finally acknowledging the need for speed in the forward corps. This is, after all, how the game is played today. Then he went out and acquired Bertuzzi who skates like he's forty. But okay, he's a great passer and net front presence and you need a couple of those. Now Looch is back. I hope this trip down memory lane isn't going to cost a job to someone like Lauko who has some serious wheels. I get the $900K price tag and the need for bodies but Lauko/Steen/McLaughlin aren't going to cost more.

This is really the only point. He’s an NHL player willing to sign here for $900k that management knows can play here. If there were younger/speedier options, they wouldn’t be able to afford them. And all three of the guys that you mentioned are probably on the opening night roster even with Lucic on it. Would you rather play an AHL veteran or rush a guy like Lysell along?

He's looked pretty cooked for 2 years now, but at 900k I'm perfectly fine with him on the 4th line for that price. Plus as others have said the nostalgia is fun.

I’m guilty of watching a lot less regular season NHL than most of you…so forgive me for asking, but wasn’t Lucic playing with a piano on his back when he left here? (which was a long time ago)

For the locker room this is a great addition,

For the ice, he shouldn’t see much of it and if this team is going to be all in again, he should be regularly a heathy scratch.

Now if we can just sign Kessel to a league minimum contract as well, we'll have our 2005 1st round (Kessel), 2nd round (Looch) and 3rd round (Marchand) picks on the ice together for the first time ;)
Kessel was traded in September of '09 and Marchand made his debut later that season.

I think this is fine. He's going to be the 12/13th forward on a salary that you can clear off the books easily if it doesn't work out. He's not going to be blocking a kid if a kid proves to be better.

As @Myt1 said, it's a Foligno replacement but at a minimum salary. No issues.

On the Krejci/Bergeron front I don't think this really signals any sort of intention on either player but I would think it's highly likely that Lucic talked to them during the process and does have some idea of which way they are leaning.

Honestly I didn't even realize he was only entering his age 35 year. Also, in my head, he's only been gone for like, 4 years. Not 9. In other news, I'm getting older.
Holy crap I had to look this up to verify your point. Yep, the last year he played for Boston was 2014-15. That's unbelievable.
