Here
Sounds not great, based on the immediate indefinite leave of absence and the Bruins language.

Well, I hate to be so cynical, but Lucic isn’t good anymore so it’s an easy call to make.

I think it’s just that he got arrested less than 12 hours ago and the only recourse in that time frame is an indefinite leave to keep him away from the team. Then they follow the process and procedures for more permanent action.

The Bruins statement says he’s “taking an indefinite leave of absence.”

The Herald may be mis-reporting that.
The Herald may also not be wrong - they could just be being blunt while the team statement is more diplomatic.

Lucic was once a great Bruin but he has 48 minutes played this season, the team won't miss him.

He was arrested last night. Seems like it was pretty bad. If true, I hope that they dump him quickly.

This is the right point. There is a criminal justice process that needs to be completed to document and report what happened. That process needs to be respected so its results can be leveraged in what follows. That process includes support for the victims. I also hope that Lucic can get some help as he steps away.

This isn't the first time for Lucic is it? Seem to remember some reports when he was first with the team.
https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/lucic-to-cops-do-you-know-who-i-am

According to a police report of the incident, the Bruins [team stats] left winger was “highly intoxicated and hostile” after he and his galpal argued outside a Starbucks on Commercial Street shortly before 1:30 a.m.
Witnesses told police the 6-foot-4, 220-pound hockey player was yelling at his girlfriend, who was on the ground, and at one point threw her shoes and purse at her. However, the woman told police she was not physically assaulted and “was adamant about not being harmed,” the report states. Police “did not observe any visible injuries,” the report says, and Lucic was not charged.

According to the AP, Boston Police “could neither confirm nor deny arresting Lucic early Saturday morning.”

Likely a public records request issue. The clerical staff that processes those generally don’t work over the weekend.

Damn. I am a Lucic fan, and like what he brought to the team.

I blame Frobot.

Maybe the reporting in the Herald is accurate but I prefer to wait for BPD confirmation. The BPD Media Relations office is staffed on the weekends and officers in Media Relations have access to contemporaneous police reports. So the “neither confirm nor deny” response seems to matter. No snark at all intended here, Salem. That’s just my experience dealing with BPD Media Relations.

Whatever happened, and if there are charges or not, this is going to be ugly and painful. Lucic is an icon this town.

I’ve never dealt with the BPD. I was just commenting on how we were advised to deal with media requests from our town legal counsel. Basically media requests are filed through a public records request with the clerks office.

I work for engineering, but I work with our PD enough over the last 18 years to know how it works with MGL and police departments, at least in the suburbs.

#UPDATE: I-Team sources say Lucic’s wife called 911 and told Boston police her husband attacked and choked her. When officers arrived, sources added that Milan Lucic appeared drunk. #wbz

If true? Fuck him.
Ugh, I've never been able to grasp the idea of having the level of anger it takes to do something like that, especially to someone you love, fuck him indeed. Sadly when Brad mentioned his wife and kids before him this was what I was expecting

If it was the first time I might wonder, too. But it’s the second incident we are aware of and the first was long enough ago that I would think rules that out.
Still, it can be a factor without being the only variable involved. Lucic, with the length of his career and the role he has occupied in the game, seems like a pretty safe bet for some degree of CTE related issues.

Recognizing that does not absolve him or hand wave away any of it.

The answer is Frederic but it’s not really a thing that needs to be done. Lucic only played 4 games this year it’s not like the kids are getting run shift after shift.

I’m not sure what happens cap wise. He’s on LTIR so can they just leave him there indefinitely or does his cap hit have to go back on the roster at some point?

I guess, in theory, he’s the option — he’s never appeared to me to have the size and snarl for the job as it’s traditionally profiled. Poitras got caved in a couple of times in a game 10 days or so ago — can’t remember the opponent. Come playoff time Pastrnak will benefit from an inhibiting force on the roster. Hathaway seemed to be in the best position for that job but he was oddly passive in a couple of instances. We shall see.

In the meantime, this sucks for the Lucic family and for the Bruins family, as well. Here’s hoping the fallout can be limited and Milan can form a lasting friendship with Bill W.

How much bigger than 6’3” 220 should he be?
That is second on the team in height and weight and actually has fighting majors.

He has fighting majors, I'll give him that.
I'm not sure his record as a fighter strikes fear into too many would-be miscreants apart from Brandon Tanev, who's giving away two inches and twenty+ pounds to Trent. Maybe he'll round into form, but I wouldn't consider him an inhibiting force out there—certainly not in the class of an Adam McQuaid, for example.

Edit; To note that there’s also some disagreement about Freddie’s height and weight. I see a couple of sites datestamped 2023 that report him as 6’2” and 205. Dunno.

Code phrase (told me by an ex-alcoholic cousin) for identifying fellow AA members is; “Are you a friend of Bill W?” Apparently he was the founder but I can’t recall what last name the W stands for.

There’s been a few mentions in this thread about Milan’s reported struggles with alcohol. It might be irresponsible of me to conjecture in this way, but I’d honestly prefer to believe he has an addiction over and above the alternative diagnoses.

That it's been reported that he choked her is a very very very bad sign. There is a much higher incidence of killing a partner if they've been previously choked. It's horrible.

If he was drunk and has a problem with alcohol, at the very least he has to get that addressed even as he must face the consequences of battering his wife. At this point the only thing that matters is the safety of Brittany and the kids.

This is a pretty silly seven post digression in this thread, no?

Started with a single legit question about who takes up arguably the primary function Milan had/has on the team, which in my opinion is heavyweight protection.

I’m happy to own the initial foot fault and to cease and desist hereinafter, but it seems quite natural to answer direct questions and chew briefly on this kind of bone. In the vacuum of additional reporting, it became a tangent, yes, one that would not seem to merit its own thread.

I know I’ve had this tag line for a while, but would anyone mind changing it in light of the charges? “Going Lucic on his ash” has a shitty meaning now that I don’t want to be associated with. Terrible actions by Lucic. He should be cut.
