No way, the ball wasn't just in the glove, it was put away in the pocket before the runner touched the bag. Plus the umps typically reward good execution by the fielders on those DPs and give them the benefit of any doubt.
Umps watch the base and listen for the ball's snap into the glove, so it needs to be put away in the pocket. And umps don't reward, they rule.

I remember him very smoothly catching pitches in the 80s, always ending with his glove in the strike zone, like he had to move his glove to the strike zone because the pitch was even more of a strike than he expected it to be.
And that's my point. Contreras is way too exaggerated, and there is no way that umpires like that.
