I can't read that, but the thought of it makes me angry. I'm not getting that Peacock crap, and meanwhile I'm paying for NESN for Sox games. Arggh.
The deal is for 18 Sunday games, primarily on the east coast. Odds are pretty good that there will be at least one or two Sox games affected so yeah, NESN is going to lose a couple games. Between this and the Apple deal, I'm not liking the trend we're seeing. I get that the future is streaming and all that, but games exclusively on an app means I'm locked into that game if I want to watch it. I generally prefer the ability to flip channels during commercial breaks, whether it's another game or a show/movie.
I would rather listen to the fire alarm than Tony Massarotti.Massarotti sucks so very much. This is disappointing.
Looking forward to the Monaco Eckersley games and probably the Monaco Millar games too. The rest, yuk. From @nesn:
Dave O’Brien and Mike Monaco will have play-by-play duties this season with Dennis Eckersley, Tony Massarotti, Kevin Millar, and Kevin Youkilis as analysts.
Jahmai Webster returns as sideline reporter.

He’s really interactive too, I’ve had a few fun back and forth’s with him.I'm happy that they're bringing Middlebrooks on. He's a tremendous follow on Twitter.
If the net result of this is Eck calls more games that he otherwise would have skipped due to the travel, I can't see it as a bad thing. Though I'm sure its more likely going to benefit the part-timers like Mazz.Per Chad Finn, NESN will continue to have some road games with the broadcast team staying home, ugh.
Now this will really motivate the major cable and streaming carriers to pay their large fees!Per Chad Finn, NESN will continue to have some road games with the broadcast team staying home, ugh.
My guess is that it costs NESN nothing to produce (as in, someone else foots the bill) and they get to rake in whatever meager ad revenues it generates. Same for pretty much all their non-Red Sox/Bruins programming (Dining Playbook, NH Life, Dirty Water TV, etc). It's a small step above infomercials.View attachment 50422
This man, with this hair cut, is 51 years old. How is this horrible show still on the air?
Yes, and he sells his own sponsorships/ads.Do you think he pays NESN to broadcast his show?
Didn’t his dad run a cigar/liquor store? I assume that he may have had some ties to other nefarious pursuits?I grew up in the same town as him, graduated HS with his older brother. I vaguely new Charlie, but my memory was that he was a pretty normal kid, certainly nothing like he appears to be now.
Anyway, has anyone heard the story about his father's past? It's a pretty old story, but I'm sorta surprised there has been no chatter about it given Charlie's local fame.
That's what I thought. Does he get to keep the money from the sponsorship/ads or does a portion of that go to NESN too?Yes, and he sells his own sponsorships/ads.
It depends on the negations, but I would guess yes. NESN has very little interest in developing/producing/financing any non-game programming and this show along with the dinning one as an example strike me as locally focused glorified infomercials. That's what I thought. Does he get to keep the money from the sponsorship/ads or does a portion of that go to NESN too?
Comes with 8 tickets to a game though. That makes it borderline free.Found this interesting. NESN to start offering streaming service to New England residents. $30/month is pretty steep but Sox games are really the only reason I still have cable.

We'd need to see more details on these tickets to know for sure.Comes with 8 tickets to a game though. That makes it borderline free.
What? Fuck no.Without going back to check if this has been asked already: does anyone at all watch Charlie Moore?
Well that's why I'm curious. He's been getting paid by NESN for over 20 years to go fishing and be a dick on camera. Perplexing. What? Fuck no.
He also produces Behind the B and Bruins Academy, so he does provide some value to the network.Without going back to check if this has been asked already: does anyone at all watch Charlie Moore?
I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around, he pays them. I’m serious, someone else can explain it better if I’m wrong but the way I understand it is he pays NESN a fee to air his programs and he finds the advertisers and show sponsors, crew, etc.Well that's why I'm curious. That is what I was referring to, above, but I couldn’t find confirmation. Those other two for sure are Paid placements.I’m pretty sure it’s the other way around, he pays them. They film it and bring the show to the channel. I don’t think it costs NESN anything. Same thing with Dining Playbook and Phantom Gourmet on TV38. It’s a common practice.
NESN needs content. But they also don't want to spend money to create content because it's probably not worth it at the end of the day; like who's watching NESN at 10:30 on Wednesday morning? So they can either run infomercials or stuff like this and Dining Playbook and Dirty Water TV that gives the illusion that they're running real shows, but generate revenue. This is a new concept for me.
Sox in 2 usually runs a minimum of three times a day: midnight on NESN, 5am on NESNplus, and 10am on NESN. I get that they have to pay bills and that dumbass gambling show has to air at 7am every morning, but NESNplus seems made for a constant loop of the previous night's game from 5am to noon or something.I’d be thrilled if they would replay “yesterday’s game in 2” overnight and into midday, as I usually miss the end of the game and it a fun way to catch up on what happened. Instead I wake up to a random game from this date in some random year.
It blows my mind they don't have a stable of Red Sox and Bruins documentaries and retrospectives to run in those slots. License ones that exist and then develop some new ones that they can market in collector sets to further recoup their costs.NESN needs content. I know I've always thought that they should run old games, but TBH I don't watch old games when they do. Maybe I'll catch an inning or two, or watch a few minutes of a hockey game, but they're kinda boring.
This is what the YES Network does with the poorly named Yankeeography that profiles players and specific teams. : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/YankeeographyIt blows my mind they don't have a stable of Red Sox and Bruins documentaries and retrospectives to run in those slots. They are content to pay 500 bucks for ‘Charlie Moore: I’m Gonna Fulfill Every Bostonian Stereotype’ and shows about local restaurants hosted by nobodies who probably pay NESN to get screen time. This is what the YES Network does with the poorly named Yankeeography that profiles players and specific teams. : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankeeography
I’ve been waiting for NESN to follow suit for 15 years and am always surprised they aren’t doing it. I’m sure it costs something to pay producers and video editors and whatnot, but it can’t cost *that* much. But maybe there’s just no market for it?
They have done the "My Story" series profiling both Red Sox and Bruins players, which is a good idea, but it also isn't much of a show. This is what the YES Network does with the poorly named Yankeeography that profiles players and specific teams. : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yankeeography

Well to be fair the rest of the country needs grist for the “Make Fun of New England” mill so I get it.They are content to pay 500 bucks for ‘Charlie Moore: I’m Gonna Fulfill Every Bostonian Stereotype’ and shows about local restaurants hosted by nobodies who probably pay NESN to get screen time.
Exactly. Not much of a show. They have done the "My Story" series profiling both Red Sox and Bruins players, which is a good idea, but it also isn't much of a show.
