Where is Philly getting all this money? They have an expensive QB and roster.
They had I think 10th most cap space coming into the day. Hurts' cap hit is only $13M and they used June 1 process dates on Kelce and Cox retirements to push that money mostly to next year. Their roster is generally pretty inexpensive.

What does the Fields market look like now. Pittsburgh and Atlanta were two of the more highly rumored landing spots. Vegas? I know there were Darnold rumors, but Minnesota?

Yup, Raiders and Vikings the two top rumored spots.

Broncos are also on this list, and could make some sense -- they're stuck with the 12th pick, Payton might not want to go through a multi-year rebuild, etc. At the same time, after the Russell disaster and financial fallout, I could see that franchise being wary of committing to Fields right away.

Having a hard time thinking the Vikes will bite on Fields. He hasnt exactly lit them up when playing the Vikes. So "First Hand Scouting" probably lessens the interest.

Fun fact.

Jon Runyan (Jr. mind you, Senior was pretty good too) was drafted 192nd in the 2020 draft. The same position that the Pats just traded Mac Jones to Jacksonville for (if the reporting is accurate).

Last year's 192nd pick, Patriots Punter, Bryce Baringer
This could be an interesting move - Giants have a big money LT coming off injury and a young stud RT who needs a little get right season. Could be a very good line, and I’d rather spend there than Barkley tbh.

The market for a Field's trade is much smaller now. Washington, NE, and Denver are seemingly all that is left and with 2 of those teams with a top 3 pick I wonder if Chicago stays with Fields and either takes MHJ or attempts to swap with Washington or NE?

you don't pass on the best QB prospect in years because you couldn't get a 3rd for your current QB in the last year of his contract.

Wilson was useful last year. Surprised the Pats didn’t make more effort to retain him given their lack of other options and in an effort to maintain continuity on defense. Seems like a reasonable deal for him

That number actually seems a little high to me for Wilson. I'd rather bring Jennings back at a slightly lower figure (good run defense, seems to be getting more and more consistent) and maybe wait things out on Uche.

he wa definitely solid, but I think they are planning to use Mapu and Dugger in that role more

They used him a bit as an edge rusher the 2nd half of the season. With Uche also presumably leaving, maybe Jennings too, they need someone other than Judon who can come off the edge

I think the one position that I’m putting 100% faith in Mayo’s evaluation is linebacker.
Perhaps, but he’s not the one actually evaluating, drafting and signing guys. His input is irrelevant if Wolf isn’t acting on it.

Still a long, long way to go obviously but the front 7 has a deceptive number of holes and simply having a former LB as head coach isn’t really going to fix that

And they seemed to evaluate him as a guy they thought was worth bringing back, but not at the price he got.

THis is a loaded FA class for edge, if that was the role, makes sense to move off Wilson for a real edge if he wasn't going to be playing the other LB roles as much.

It was a loaded class for edge, a lot of them have signed. Hunter would be the big get but with Floyd, Epenesa, Greenard, Huff, Davenport, Z.Smith, Van Ginkel (if he counts), and Graham all off the board, it’s slim pickings outside of the franchise tag guys. Clowney, Uche, Chase Young…not too much left

ooh i missed epenesa and Armstrong.

still some guys left though, Danna, Wonnum, Lawson, Ferrell in terms of probably better fits in the low/mid tier that Wilson would be in. Plus obviously Hunter/Young. If you want more of a hybrid you could look at Brooks

I posted in the wrong thread by mistake, but man... CAR turning down two 1sts and a 2nd for Burns so they could have him for 1 year when the team was terrible then trade him for a 2nd and a 5th is just criminal mismanagement.

Wow, CAR has messed things up pretty bad…

From Scott Barrett:
If you combine the Bryce Young trade with the Brian Burns trade (the declining of the Rams' offer before later accepting the Giants' offer), then

the Panthers traded:

+ 2024 1.01 / QB Caleb Williams
+ WR D.J. Moore
+ 2023 Round 1 pick (top-10)
+ 2023 Round 2 pick
+ 2023 Round 2 pick
+ 2024 Round 1 pick
+ 2025 Round 1 pick

In exchange for:

+ 1 year rental of Brian Burns in a meaningless 2-win season
+ Bryce Young, who just had the 2nd-worst rookie season by any QB since Vietnam
+ Giants' 2025 Round 5 pick

Takes giant brass testicles to make these kind of moves. Not for the faint of heart.

Yeah, he seemed to lose a step or 2 but man, you'd think he take a deal with a contender if it was out there.
There are a whole lot of unsigned RBs better. Jones Henry etc. He's not in position to be choosy

Dan Morgan really has his work cut out for him. Hope he can keep his dumbass owner in line long enough to actually execute a rebuild plan.

The Panthers now have picks 33 and 39, which is pretty good in a draft deep in Tier II “potential core starter” players - they should walk away with 2 of those type players. They have flexibility to maneuver a bit, maybe even sneak into the end of the 1st round to get that 5th year option on a player they really like.

Carolina is really tight on cap space this year, though better without Burns offer holding space, something like $35m after the trade. But they project to have over $100m next year. So if Young shows improvements this year and if they hit in a few of these draft picks - IF and IF - they could be in an optimistic mood next March.
