Wow, that is nuts. I randomly spoke to a sports comms class on that campus recently. I feel bad for those students as it isn't that big of a school and a lot of them surely know those involved.

Guns are such a scourge on this country.

This is horrific.

Ronnie Caldwell, a Northwestern State player, was shot to death. Teammate Maurice Campbell II has since been arrested and charge with gun charges but not officially linked to the murder yet.

From the WAFB story above, the head coach has resigned as well
The school has also accepted the resignation of head coach, Brad Laird, who was in his sixth season as head coach of the Demons football team.

“Due to the loss of Ronnie and the emotional burden it has caused me, I don’t feel I can give my all to these players or this program,” Laird said. “Any coach will tell you that their players become like family, so the loss of Ronnie was like losing a son. I love this program and this university and I know it will persevere and move forward with the competitive spirit that is at the core of our DNA.”
The murder happened two weeks ago. Crazy that it doesn't even make the mainstream news, as this is the first I've heard about it
The 27 year old that was arrested as well was Caldwell's roomate (https://www.kalb.com/2023/10/13/nsu-student-killed-shooting-roommate-arrested/)

Bad as this is, at least the coach doesn't seem involved in any way directly or peripheral; not something you can say about the situation at Baylor and Dave Bliss.
