Cashman hinted at using some of his second tier prospects as trade bait in this article. Jagielo is blocked by Headley:DanoooME said:What's the plan for Jagielo? AAA by the end of the year? He seems to be doing as well as Judge at AA.

"Another said, “He has a chance to be a star. He reminds me of [Edgar] Renteria at the similar age. He can run. If you watch batting practice you will see he has more than speed. The ball jumps off his bat for a young kid. You can say he is [an Alfonso] Soriano comp or a baby Hanley Ramirez. He has a chance to be special.”"

I've also heard comparisons to Jose Reyes. Matao has tools but you would like to see him walk a little more and strikeout a little less. He definitely hasn't developed an advanced approach at the plate at this point of his career. With that said, he is 20 years old and this is his first exposure to Single A. He is a high-ceiling prospect.
jon abbey said:Well, that's exciting news, his last AAA start was Wednesday, so he could slot in Monday or any time after that.
DS, I don't know anywhere near enough about him to do something like that, but I'm psyched to see him in pinstripes.
As per LoHud Yankees: One day after announcing that Luis Severino’s next start will be in the big leagues, the Yankees have given an exact date for that highly anticipated debut. Severino will pitch on Wednesday, the second game of next week’s series against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.jon abbey said:Well, that's exciting news, his last AAA start was Wednesday, so he could slot in Monday or any time after that.

Yeah, that was a tough job, mopping up for a month and then getting the occasional spot start. He is better off in Scranton, pitching every five days, and then going up when needed. I guess he took a pay cut. Not sure.jon abbey said:He might be the 6th starter again at this point, either him or Mitchell.
With Severino knocking on the door to the big leagues, the Yankees didn’t have to panic at the trade deadline when Michael Pineda needed a DL-stint because of his strained forearm. General Manager Brian Cashman’s ace in the hole was his 21-year-old stud. Even though Severino has already thrown 99 ⅓ innings and only 113 last year, he will not be on an innings limit.
Nice analysis of his delivery. Taught me two things I didn't know. That's a sign of good reporting and writing.Darnell's Son said:I wrote about Severino today for .com.

Good point. If Teix wasn't playing so well, my Bird interest would be higher.jon abbey said:Bird has to be added to the 40 man this winter, Judge doesn't, so Bird is more likely to be activated in Sept than Judge, I think (barring injuries, of course).
Totally blocked by Teixeira and A-Rod. Left handed hitter, perfect for the park. Guess he better buy a house in Scranton. Hate to see him go in a trade but his stock is rising.jon abbey said:Bird with another HR in his 3rd AB, also off Tomlin. Have yourself a game, big guy.
