It doesn’t matter, but it’s still funny. He presumably only took the job on the condition that he's hiring his own people. Does it matter whether he met with Showalter or that the Mets took care of that business before he got there? This is the media attempting to make something out of nothing.
Yeah he was the Dodgers’ best player at three positions this year, in terms of WAR.I don’t have any problem with Acuna winning and 40-70 is awesome but Betts being so versatile wins it for me. He allowed the Dodgers so much leeway to build a team. The Braves probably still win without Acuna, not sure the Dodgers win without Betts.
To be clear, I mostly agree with you. I just think the vote is going to be very in favor of Acuna.I don’t have any problem with Acuna winning and 40-70 is awesome but Betts being so versatile wins it for me. Well, they were using Texas' IL to stash DeGrom, after all."In a stunning development, Billy Eppler resigned Thursday as Mets general manager amid an ongoing Major League Baseball investigation.
Sources told The Post the probe involves alleged improper uses of the injured list."

Trevor May retires."Now that it's official, to the A's organization and every single person part of it, I love all of you," May said. "Every single one of you. Except for one guy and we all know who that guy is. Sell the team, dude. I tried to get a sell shirt. I didn't get here fast enough. Just sell it, man. Let someone who actually takes pride in the things they own, own something. There are actually people who give a s*** about the game. Let them do it. Take mommy and daddy's money somewhere else. Dork.
"And also, if you're going to be a greedy f***, own it. There's nothing weaker than being afraid of cameras. That was one thing I struggled with this year, was just not eviscerating that guy. Do whatever you're going to do bro. You're a billionaire. They exist. You have all this power. You shouldn't have any because you haven't earned any of it. But whatever. It is what it is. Reality is you got handed everything you have. And now you're too soft to take any responsibility for anything you're doing. Yeah, whatever. Oakland is Oakland. You can make all the cases, 'It's not a great city.' But you're putting hundreds, if not thousands of people out of work that have worked somewhere for decades and you haven't acknowledged that at all.
"So, just be better. That's all we're asking. Just be a human being. Because this is just a billionaire keeping up with the Joneses. He sees all the billionaires' big yachts and he wants a yacht too and that's what this is about. And it's that stupid. It's that dumb. It's that dumb. Don't spend money on your team. Do whatever you want with your team. It's your team. But own it. You don't have to rationalize things. Just own it. That's all I want. Just own this s***."
That's a very weak group. I could see Leyland and Peters getting in, but have no strong feelings at all about any of them. The Contemporary Baseball Era Managers/Executives/Umpires ballot includes Cito Gaston, Davey Johnson, Jim Leyland, Ed Montague, Hank Peters, Lou Piniella, Joe West and Bill White. All candidates except Peters are living.
The Contemporary Era Committee will meet on Dec. 3 at baseball’s Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tenn.

This covers my first impressions precisely. I don't feel I'm qualified to assess most umpires and I'm completely ambivalent about the rest... except Gaston. I'm fairly certain that 90% of managers put in his place would have gotten the same results. My recollection is that he had a reputation as a hands off guy who didn't do much of anything. I do think Peters probably has the resume of a Hall of Fame GM.That's a very weak group. I could see Leyland and Peters getting in, but have no strong feelings at all about any of them.
I think Johnson is very underrated. 5 teams--all over .500; only 4 sub.- 500 seasons in 17. But probably not quite a HOFer.This covers my first impressions precisely. Yeah, but he couldn't stop Reggie Jackson from trying to kill the queen.Joe West has the record for most seasons and games umpired. Fans may not like him, but I think those accomplishments get him in.
He wasn't a great manager but he was historically significant being the first Black manager to lead a team to a World Series title. I'm sure that's the main reason why he's on this list. This covers my first impressions precisely. lol boo hooARod unhappy Yankees didn't retire his number

I think they meant to write BECAUSE OF his off-the-field issues.Despite his off-the-field issues, Rodriguez did help the Yankees to a World Series championship in 2009, the last time New York won it all. That title came after Rodriguez admitted to taking PEDs the first time, but before his eventual yearlong suspension in 2014.
Mattingly.lol boo hoo
Have the Yankees retired any numbers for players who didn't win multiple championships with the team?
Likely yes.If Melvin goes to SF, I wonder if Mike Shildt replaces him.
That he’s been pried away from two organizations now and hasn’t ever won anything. What’s the fuss? Melvin is a well-respected manager, he and Preller famously don’t get along and he and Zaidi have history together in OAK.
Bochy, a former MLB catcher, managed in SD for 12 seasons before moving north and winning with the Giants. Maybe history rhymes? Melvin is also from the Bay Area fwiw. That he’s been pried away from two organizations now and hasn’t ever won anything.
Maybe so. This will be his fifth bite at the managerial apple. I just don’t see the appeal.Bochy, a former MLB catcher, managed in SD for 12 seasons before moving north and winning with the Giants. Maybe history rhymes? Melvin is also from the Bay Area fwiw.
Is it clear that Alomar even wants to be manager? I know he has filled in here and there over the years, but maybe that's as far as the interest goes. Has he indicated he passed up other opportunities because he only wants to manage the Guardians? Or is it possible full time managing holds no real appeal for him and he just wants to stay in Cleveland as a coach only?I'll still be surprised if it's not Sandy Alomar... although I sort of expected them to just go ahead and announce that by now. He's passed up so many other offers to stay there, it seems like it would be an insult to pass him up now, especially if it's an outside hire. It was already reported at the end of the season that the one thing that's certain about the 2024 coaching staff is that Alomar will be a part of it regardless of other hires.
