Sigh, 3+ weeks until the Pats suit up.Forget it Jed, its Summer League
I lol'dBetween Morrison's braindead rotations, his inexplicable benching of Fall (who cares if he was hurt - this is a high stakes game) and the team's well documented chemistry issues with all these guys fighting for playing time and contracts, this was a predictable result. This franchise continues to severely underperform.
I'm just going to, embarrasingly, admit that I almost took this post seriously. Our last chance to gamethread the C's until the fall. Had to do it.I'm just going to, embarrasingly, admit that I almost took this post seriously. Well played!
Yes. Waters was the revelation for me. Edwards and Williams were as advertised, which is great, but watching Waters run the offense was just fun. I hope he's able to stick. (There seems little doubt that Edwards and Willaims will stick). In all seriousness, this doesn't completely wash away the toxic residue from the past season but the team's performance as well as several standout individual contributions makes it hard not to want for more. Edwards showed signs of being the kind of player that many of us hoped for, Williams penchant for always being in the right spot makes it easy to be bullish on him, Waters flashed some good ballhandling and decision making skills, TimeLord looks like he has learned a bit and then there was Fall. I am not sure what his role will be in the NBA but he did everything he could to make the Celtics think long and hard about how they might use him.
Agreed, very fun SL... Edwards can get his shot whenever he wantsOur last chance to gamethread the C's until the fall. Had to do it.

After what this team put each other and the fans through in '18-19, this was kind of what everyone needed.
Unless, of course, you actually like baseball.Tough to miss out on more games during sports deadzone season.
I definitely don’t watch much these days beyond the Sox.Unless, of course, you actually like baseball.
This one hurts my feelings.Everything's falling part for Boston teams since the Bruins game 7
I think I saw one segment where the question is - which Williams sees more minutes this year, Robert or Grant? While he was far from my favorite player, the Celtics have a lot of BIG minutes to replace with MaMo moving on (in addition to Horford and Baynes). I like what I saw of GW in summer league, but he didn't look that ready to be a part of the rotation this season. We'll see. I hope he can contribute, but I still worry he's just a little bit too short. I'm sure his strength will help.I think the main developments this summer were Edwards and TL, as they played well enough to merit decent playing time with the big club. To me, Edwards was even better than advertised as he showed some defensive intensity and offensive playmaking, neither of which is in his scouting report. Waters and Tacko were great to watch but it's unclear how much they'll ever contribute to the Celts. Hope they do but just sayin'. Grant Williams was exactly as expected and will make the big club but I feel like if he's getting serious minutes this year, something has gone terribly wrong
I agree, but even if he never does, having a guy who is a bit of a “chucker” but can provide instant offense off the bench on a good night is a valuable piece to have, especially on a second-round pick rookie salary.Edwards will need to learn to understand when to score and when not to. He played well in SL, but he also had a number of Rozier - jack up a 3 with 20 seconds on the clock - moments as well. He's a young kid. I certainly expect he'll learn - although a number of players (Rozer, MaMo) never do.
Summer inevitably gives way to Fall.Mostly just sad that the 2019 SL thread is winding down. The summer of love has come to an abrupt end.
The young Celtics lost a close game to the Memphis team that won it all after beating them soundly the first time they played. No Celtics made the first or second team All-Summer League squad.
And Brandon Clarke was #1 who was available when we took Langford. Hope Danny was right.Williams and Edwards check in at 4 and 6 in this list of top Summer League Rookies:

Lonzo Ball and Tyus Jones were the Summer League MVP's in 2017 and 2016, respectively. Danny got it right those years. And Brandon Clarke was #1 who was available when we took Langford. Hope Danny was right.
He was also available at 20. He was the guy I wanted with that draft slot although I think we got good value in the abstract by trading back at that spot and we freed up a pick to dump Baynes, which let us sign Kemba. And Brandon Clarke was #1 who was available when we took Langford. Also picked up Edwards while pushing a pick back a year, which has some value. Even if the Bucks are at the top of the league, next year's draft figures to be a bit better, which is a fine price to pay for dumping $5M in salary on short notice. He was also available at 20. Clarke was high on my list as well. Looking forward to Langford getting on the court. He was also available at 20.
