Not buying that. Boras is trying to squeeze another year out of someone.

Correa to 3B says the article.

I'd say it's like 60-75% a Boras smokescreen again, albeit Rosenthal is putting his name on this and not Heyman. But if it does happen, I think the owners will be hellbent on a salary cap on the next CBA since they tried to control Cohen with that extra tax line, and he's not giving a shit.

A salary cap isn't being approved by the players without a corresponding salary floor for teams and I don't know how many owners would sign up for that.

It looks like all the crazy money dried up and Boras is left with very improbable teams to use as stalking horses (sort of like the D-Backs’ reported interest in X). I guess if the Padres can have 3 or 4 shortstops on the roster, Cohen might think he needs a spare…

Besides his clients, Boras has had the best offseason I can remember for an agent. Last year was great, the Harper year was also great, but this one has blown both those years away.

Seems like pretty easy money to me, are other agents doing worse factoring in talent level? I have been saying it since the first week of the winter, there is more collective money to spend this winter than there is talent available and if any GMs are waiting around for bargains to fall to them, I think they will be waiting a long time.

Correa probably would have gotten a similarly huge deal last offseason if the lockout didn't last so long. 14/385 total if you factor in his year in MIN, nice work if you can get it (and almost no one can).

I'm loosely basing it on what his clients are getting v what the market expected (market meaning fangraphs crowdsource, fangraphs 'experts', MLBTR) and what other agents are getting for their clients. It's not an exact science though, just a feeling. It just feels like Boras is getting huge overpays compared to what was expected. For previous years, he was getting above expectations but not as wild as this year.

Maybe it is like you said, there's more money to spend this year and teams are ignoring the tax issue.

There is more cost certainty than there's been for a few years in the sport with a new CBA locked in, fans back in the stadiums, and different revenue streams seemingly opening up all the time.

Also the non-financial penalties for going over the top tax line (not the Cohen line, the one below, $273M for 2023) are not as painful in this new CBA, I believe.

Decent try? They were nowhere close. Falvey just completely blew it. How did he not see the market for what it was? He's so over his head. /twinsfaninsoxfanmode
If only they had offered him 10/$285m to forgo his opt out this all could have been avoided & he never would have made it to free agency.

Given that the Dodgers took the JAG-ish Heaney and Anderson and turned them into highly sought after and well-compensated stars, this seems like a good deal for Thor, and from the team’s perspective, they’re rich and talented enough that even if he is hurt or ineffective it almost certainly won’t matter too much to them. Everyone wins!

So you’re saying we should go after Big Sexy Bartolo Colon, who is still pitching in the Dominican League?
Heres a list of current FA SP's on the market. Pick a couple.

Johnny Cueto (37)
Zach Davies (30)
Danny Duffy (34)
Nathan Eovaldi (33)
Erick Fedde (30)
Chi Chi Gonzalez (31)
Zack Greinke (39)
Rich Hill (43)
Drew Hutchison (32)
Dallas Keuchel (35)
Corey Kluber (37)
Chad Kuhl (30)
Michael Lorenzen (31)
Jordan Lyles (32)
Wade Miley (36)

Besides Rodon, the next best guy is this guy. Nate Eovaldi. Compare him with Noah and the rest of the best of the best, and you get this. It doesnt matter its all mediocre:

Gallo to the Twins.

@JeffPassan

Outfielder Joey Gallo and the Minnesota Twins are in agreement on a one-year contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

Joey Gallo will get $11 million in his deal with the Twins, sources tell ESPN. He's still just 29. With a solid season this year -- remember, he put up 4.7 Wins Above Replacement in 2021 -- he's still primed to do well next year. But no doubt: This is a make-or-break season.

Benintendi gets the largest contract in White Sox history. Great timing by him.

$73M is the largest contract in White Sox history? Wow.
Benintendi overtook Yasmani Grandal for the largest guaranteed figure in White Sox history, besting him by $2 million. The next highest-valued contracts include Grandal ($73 million), Yoán Moncada ($70 million extension), John Danks ($65 million), Frank Thomas ($64.4 million) and Paul Konerko ($60 million).

I think Bloom was a hundred percent right to move Benintendi when he did, the issue was the poor return and inadequate replacements, but the original decision was the right one, I think.

I’ve harped on this, but Benintendi should have been moved the previous winter, when he still had the sheen of a budding young star (which the team should have seen through after several facets of his game fell apart in 2019).

The Sox would have gotten a very nice package, and left field would have been easy to fill (by Verdugo if that trade still happens, or by signing Corey Dickerson or Brad Miller or something).
