The could get very, very ugly.

From The Athletic: Blindsided - Michael Oher alleges Tuohy family never adopted him, didn’t share ‘The Blind Side’ profits

For a time, “The Blind Side” was a really heartwarming movie (based on the Michael Lewis book of the same name). It bordered on cheesy, featured famous football coaches and even won Sandra Bullock an Oscar. But yesterday, Michael Oher filed a petition in Tennessee, alleging the story at the heart of the movie — Oher’s adoption by Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy — was a sham.

The news is a thorny mess. If what Oher alleges is true, the feel-good story becomes a vile disaster. Details:
  • Oher says the Tuohys lied about adopting him and instead tricked him into a conservatorship, which gave them authority over the future NFL first-rounder’s business deals.
  • The petition claims the Tuohys negotiated the movie deal with Twentieth Century Fox for “The Blind Side,” ensuring each parent — plus both of their biological children — earned $225,000 each from the movie, in addition to a percentage of the proceeds. Oher says he unknowingly gave away the life rights to his story for “no payment whatsoever.”
  • Oher asked the court to revoke the conservatorship and prevent the Tuohys from profiting off his name, image and likeness going forward.
Read the full story here. Again, if true, it’s ugly and certainly paints the movie in a different light. Stay tuned for more details as this story develops.
