Thanks for sharing. Snapping up a tackle this late Is both encouraging and a little terrifying.A good article on Lowe from last year. In short, high floor, low ceiling guy with the skills and character to have a career as a depth/swing tackle.
I think that at least part of this black friday shopping spree for OL is injury-related. FWIW, September was always going to be a rough month of adjustment with the limited work that the FO did this offseason in acquiring OL help. We won't know the impact of BoB and Klemm coaching additions until October. Thanks for sharing. Snapping up a tackle this late Is both encouraging and a little terrifying.
If the rest of the big bodies are back and performing, there sure seems to be still a real RT opening (aching need?). I believe the OL watchers think RT can be assisted most easily with chips, etc. but I saw too many free runs last year and want something stable
That makes sense, and is how I’ve always thought about it, but listening to OL wonks on podcasts there seems a school of thought that it’s easier to isolate a weak guard using an unbalanced d-line to peel off/turn the center. Not sure what to think on this anymore. Both Lowe and Wheatley seem to be 3rd OT types. Makes me wonder if we will see Onwenu back at RT and one of the rookies at RG. Hell, even Ferentz.
I would think a rookie between Andrews and Onwenu would be in a pretty good spot to learn while being protected.
I asume they’ve concluded that Reiff and McDermot are a combination of bad and injured such thst you’re not going to try particularly hard to keep them available for the first six games or so (maybe you roster reiff than IR him the next day) and Anderson is NFI so then the pickings get very slim indeed with Steuben being in my mind unplayable.I think that at least part of this black friday shopping spree for OL is injury-related. Wheatley seems to have more upside but less experience, whereas Lowe has less upside but more experience. Wheatley certainly has potential to be a starter, but it's a question of how quickly each can round into form as well as gel with the line as a whole. I think the Pats have done fine in addressing the need; now they have to sort through the bodies to try and create some cohesion. Seemingly the trades indicate moving Onwenu to tackle is a last resort, and may also point to Reiff either sticking at guard or moving to IR.Both Lowe and Wheatley seem to be 3rd OT types. At this point, I would be shocked if Onwenu didn't start at RT this season. Both Lowe and Wheatley seem to be 3rd OT types. Makes me wonder if we will see Onwenu back at RT and one of the rookies at RG. Hell, even Ferentz.
