I hope the Patriots don't run into a team that is sick of hearing about Tom Brady.

Ed: apologies if asked and answered, how would Vegas treat a Minn SB line?
I think with Brady it's like "really, him again?" With Marino it was "nah, we're not losing to this kid." Yeah, both sick of situations but sick of Brady is because of a career of success thing. The Marino hype was just a one year thing up to that point. Quarterback ratings in that game:
Montana 127.2
Marino 66.9

Walsh 1, Shula 0

That Super Bowl was the crib of today’s bitter old man. Epic beat down in what was supposed to be the first of many SB trips for Marino. He and Shula never got back.

Remember when he said "next year I buy" to Joe Cool in that commercial? Montana is still waiting for that free Diet Pepsi.

But, you know, Marino was awfully good.

Ed: And of course Shula is a piece of crap who couldn't even beat the Jets.

Wow, no Chiefs. That's good. No one would argue that facing the Bills or Titans is worse than facing the Chiefs.

I will now wait for someone to argue with me.

Have to root for Jax tomorrow, right? Tougher matchup for Pittsburgh and the Pats should handle the Titans easily.
Only thing I'll say about that is a tougher matchup for Pittsburgh guarantees a higher floor on a AFCC matchup.

Would you prefer...
  • Play the Titans, then a 40% chance to play the Jags and a 60% chance to play the Steelers
  • Play the Bills, then a 10% chance to play the Titans and a 90% chance to play the Steelers
Still probably #1 there, but I do like that possibility of the easy road.

An AFC South path to the SB would be alright with me.

Nobody is going to argue about this. Dan “Tomato Can” Shaughnessy is beside himself. He started a Trump like tweet storm that accelerated when Kelce went down and only got worse as the game went on:

Justifying my decision to ignore anything that prick does. What are Patriot fans supposed to do? They play who they play and you hope they win.

And just to be clear: Shaughnessy’s whole “Tomato Can” strategy is to minimize the satisfaction if the Pats win as expected and beat the piss out of them if they do somehow end up losing. It’s trolling for sure but nobody does it better than Shank.

The point was made here within the last few days: there are media people in town — a full handful, not one — who actively root against the team and wish bad things for them on all fronts.

There are media markets fully as tough as Boston. New York is one, Philly another. Packed with pricks. But you never see this crap anywhere other than Boston.

It really doesn't matter. I don't get any less satisfaction out of last year since the Pats only beat the Texans instead of the 35-31 barnburner against Baltimore in 2014. Just win.

Shaugnessy is pure troll. He's working in an all but dead medium, looking for any possible controversy to remain relevant. So if it means being a troll, BFD. The funny thing is when he's on with Zolak and Betrand, he's mostly rational, on-point and a decent listen. He's not dumb, he just knows what sells, and being a contrarian prick sells.

It’s a heart/head thing, I usually root for the underdog, unless the Patriots are playing of course (practically always the favorite). So I program (head) to root for Jax, but I know at times the heart will take over and root for Buffalo, same division as the Pats or not.

Edit, as far as same div., Jets or Dolphins? Never. Duck them.

The prospect of a Pats-Falcons SB rematch— increasingly talked up in the media since the weekend— really numbs my buns. It's not so much fear factor, but more a sense of "where's the fun in that?". Beat them again in the SB and the dynamic starts to take on a Cowboys-Bills-from-the-90s quality... and I don't really want that. Lose, and it unwinds a lot of the immaculate awesomeness of 28-3, which otherwise will never be tainted.

File under 'good problems to have' and 'I'll be really fucking happy if we win another SB regardless of the circumstances". But, still, I'd rather face someone else if we make it that far.

Not too concerned about the other teams.

I think PIT, if Brown is healthy, would be the biggest threat.
Guess it boils down to two for me now. I think we know to a certain degree that Brown is going to be pretty damn healthy for this weekend.
