Oh man, I am so here for this.Soapbox warning:
I completely understand that many Red Sox fans have very strong negative feelings about David Price. I’m not going to get into a debate about right or wrong because all opinions are valid.
Everything I’ve read or heard about Price is that he’s a great teammate. Did you see his reaction in the ‘pen last night after Benny made the play of this life?
He’s made mistakes dealing with the media but why should we care? We all know about Price’s postseason failures, some of which were not his fault. I believe the Red Sox would not have made the postseason in 2017 without Price pitching in relief down the stretch. The Red Sox would not have won 108 games without him. I know he’s sucked against the Yankees. Pedro did also many times. I’m not comparing Price to Pedro, just the situation.
I’m not wearing rose-colored glasses and being a Pollyanna. I see the same issues as you. DP has gone out of his way to praise the fans and people of Boston despite the manner in which he’s treated.
We need David Price’s help tonight and if the Red Sox move on, he’ll need to come through. How about we take a break from the vitriol and take a positive approach? It can’t hurt, it can only help.
Rant over.

LOL, when I first saw this post, I didn't even get it! Tonight he was the Astros' dad indeed.
It's funny how these things work out sometimes.LOL, when I first saw this post, I didn't even get it! Tonight he was the Astros' dad indeed.
Mad Dog Russo? So which "expert" on MLB Network does Cora think should apologize to Price?

Lets hope this aspect isn't forgotten. The Sox now have till Tuesday to rest everyone up. Not to short, not too long.Price relentlessly busting guys inside with mid-90s heat all night, throwing zeros in a game when the bullpen needed him to go at least 5 innings on 3 days' rest after having warmed up in the bullpen the night before, and a loss would mean uncertainty for the entire pitching staff going into Game 6 with the ripple effects possibly extending into Game 7. He stepped up big when it mattered most. The man's a warrior in my book.
Price was starting his 3rd time through the lineup. While 93 pitches doesn't seem a lot, he was working on 3 days rest, and had a long bullpen session the night prior. And those are 93 fairly high effort pitches.Has anyone commented or asked about the thought process for taking price out - wasn’t he in on 92 pitches when he came out. Was there some kind of just in case planning going on for a potential game 7?
Yeah, I detest Strikeout McRelieverball and six innings was pretty close to where I would go with a guy on 3 days of rest who probably isn't 100% healthy. Maybe you eke out one more inning out of him but that's it.Price was starting his 3rd time through the lineup. While 93 pitches doesn't seem a lot, he was working on 3 days rest, and had a long bullpen session the night prior. And those are 93 fairly high effort pitches.
It could be, but Cora said he didn't know the guy on MLB and he was on Mad Dog's show this week and likely would know who he was.Mad Dog Russo?
Yep. This is pretty ideal. The pitching staff will be in great shape for the start of the Series.Lets hope this aspect isn't forgotten. The Sox now have till Tuesday to rest everyone up. Not to short, not too long.

Evan Roberts I thinkMad Dog Russo?
Seems like we ought to trot him out there against a 90 win team and see what happens.David Price's pitching line the last two postseasons:
19.0 ip, 16 h, 7 r, 7 er, 8 bb, 19 k, 3.32 era, 1.26 whip, 9.0 k/9
Against 101-win Houston (2017), 100-win NY (2018), and 103-win Houston (2018).
I’m deliriously happy about Price last night. But for me, the post season narrative over time also includes his poor record against NY. Pressure games and all.The fact that Price's post-season ERA could drop by half a run or more after a single game is all the proof you need to show the sample size was too small to draw conclusions about Price. I get the narrative. But it was stupid.
I am 1000 percent here for this take. What a hell of a game last night -- and despite the few roadbumps against the Yankees, he's had a season to remember.Soapbox warning:

Definitely Evan Roberts. They’ve been talking about all morning on the FANEvan Roberts I think
No it wasnt. 10 postseason games is plenty of sample to say he pitches like a dog in the playoffs. The fact that Price's post-season ERA could drop by half a run or more after a single game is all the proof you need to show the sample size was too small to draw conclusions about Price. No doubt he pitched like a dog in a majority of his starts. Also no doubt, IMO, that it had zero predictive value. No it wasnt. 10 postseason games is plenty of sample to say he pitches like a dog in the playoffs.
When he hit 96, my first thought was that he thought it was his last inning so he was airing it out. But I think it was in the 4th and he went 2 more.Apologies if this was posted and I missed it, tons of threads and posts and it's been dusty in here reading them all.
Last night Price threw 37 percent changups. In game 2 he threw 11 percent changeups. His fastball when from 31 (4-seam) and 35 (2-seam) to (27 4-seam) and 19 (2-seam) percent.
It was the most changeups he's ever thrown. He also had 2 or 3 of the top 4 fastest pitches he threw all season last night.
He said he found something throwing in the bullpen Wednesday night. I really would like to know what he discovered that kinda made him a completely different pitcher for one night.
That is good. Didn't think of it at the time, but where he had been going inside with the cutters, last night he went inside with fastballs at 93-96. Ended up being much more effective at setting up the change (better differential?), and also less risk of leaving it in the middle if the cutter doesn't cut inside enough.Pretty good write up on Price on Fangraphs: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/david-price-sheds-an-albatross/
He said in post that he 'figured something out' in the bullpen the night before. He might continue to throw the night before his starts based on this. I'm guessing it was mechanical.I have no idea what happened last night. Fastball barely touching 93 in most starts, suddenly was 95-96 and dotted. That makes all the difference when his change is 88-89.
I'll leave it to the video savants, but that suggests that one change he made resulted in hiding his delivery better. Was he positioned differently?I have no idea what happened last night. Fastball barely touching 93 in most starts, suddenly was 95-96 and dotted. That makes all the difference when his change is 88-89. Correa was also saying in postgame he could not pick up the changeup at all.
This is absolutely huge. I was getting an '04 vibe the last few days - I've always been convinced that everything broke perfectly for the Sox in winning those first four World Series games and that they would have had a hard time keeping it going pitching-wise had they been forced to pitch game 5 or beyond (Could Schilling have gone another game? Was there anything left in Lowe's tank?). Similarly, I questioned how well the Sox pitching would have held up had they had they been forced to pitch one or two games this weekend, especially with Sale likely compromised and Price unable to make another start. Closing out the ALCS last night and getting to hit the reset button is a tremendous advantage for the Sox, especially with LA and the Brew Crew having to go at least one more and maybe two more games before the winner gets to the WS.Lets hope this aspect isn't forgotten. The Sox now have till Tuesday to rest everyone up. Not to short, not too long.

yeah I saw this everywhere. unusual but if that is what works for him...He said in post that he 'figured something out' in the bullpen the night before. He might continue to throw the night before his starts based on this. I'm guessing it was mechanical.
He found a CPAP machine. It's obvious.I have no idea what happened last night. Fastball barely touching 93 in most starts, suddenly was 95-96 and dotted. That makes all the difference when his change is 88-89. Correa was also saying in postgame he could not pick up the changeup at all.
Not baseball but the best get the monkey off my back ever:FTR, I'm more convinced than ever that we should split up Sale and Price in the rotation, and put Eovaldi in the middle. Whoever we play won't be able to send out the same righty heavy lineup two games in a row, and allow guys to get comfortable and in a groove...
But whatever happens, really happy for David Price to get this monkey off his back. Timing could not have been better either.
Yep, I'd pitch Price in Game 3 in Dodger Stadium and pitch Eovaldi in Game 2.Wondering if Cora is giving any thought to holding Price until game 3 in LA. Game 2 temps are supposed to be in the mid 40's, that's what it was when he experienced the numbness in his hand due to poor circulation.
And that numbness has since been attributed to his carpal tunnel issues. The week before his "numbness" game he threw seven shutout innings at Fenway with a first pitch temp of 40 degrees. Cold weather is not a disqualifying factor for Price.Wondering if Cora is giving any thought to holding Price until game 3 in LA. Evan Roberts from the Joe Beningo and Evan Roberts Show on WFAN from 10am to 1 pm.Mad Dog Russo?
