Horford’s situation worked out for him, but it very well might not have. While his decision to re-up in Boston was his own, he wasn’t in control of the decision to come here at all. He just as easily could be sitting next to Malcolm Brogdon. I still believe Gordon Hayward made a stupid decision to go to Charlotte to maximize his earnings and have a chance to be “the man”.

Wouldn’t his response be, “It was rich!” These veteran players by the time they get out of their rookie deals realize that this is a business. Passing up tens of millions of dollars is almost always a bad business decision. That is why they hire agents/advisors to prevent their emotions from making bad business decisions.

Yes, the exciting thing for me is that he's learning (rapidly) how to get his shot off in the midrange and near the rim against NBA length and athleticism.

He was wayyy too easy to guard previously: he would either shoot a 3, pass, or dribble unthreateningly under the basket and pass to the perimeter.

There's an actual solid NBA rotation player here, and I suspect we'll get to see more of that player when a big roster move inevitably happens in the next 1-2 years.

Pritchard was the NBA's top player by game score yesterday, with his 38 / 9 / 12 netting him a 37.6 (ahead of Lebron, Beal, Brunson, etc).

Shower thought, but Pritchard's value probably goes up a decent bit in a league in which
- you're allowed to maul guys when they try to shoot over you
- 3s become a more valuable form of offense because you can't get as physical with them

I had a similar thought about the C's in general. As it becomes more physical inside, having all 8 guys who can shoot becomes a real advantage.

I am no basketball theorist, but wouldnt the Inverse be:

"If its more physical and guys can maul in the paint then driving and shooting (or passing) becomes harder. So dont worry so much about the drive and REALLY get into these guys grill so they cant launch 3s. If they blow by we can be more aggressive helping and meeting them at the rim"

Yes, which depends on having good shooters. We've also seen that in these playoffs, with mixed results. If the team has good shooters, or gets hot, it works. If not, it gets ugly fast.

Yes. I keep seeing over and over again hard closeouts, guy drives the closeout, and then gets MET at the rim. They are letting everything go there. This killed Phoenix, in particular.

This is downstream from a big emphasis in the new officiating: being less strict about the exact path a defender takes to meet the driver. They had been calling EVERYTHING that wasn't perfect lateral movement as a foul, and now you can run into guys a lot more without maintaining technically perfect "legal guarding position."
